He looked much better than when she had left him in the moming. "What medicine did you give him, mother?” she asked. “did not give him any medicine," she replied. "Lonly gave him the things that he needs as a patient,” she explained. "What things does a patient need, mother?" Her daughter asked again. “It's a long story, but I will try'to make it short,” she said. "When I was being trained as a nurse, we were told that the most important thing a patient needs is proper care and of course appropriate medicine. This is the basis of nursing as propounded by Florence Nightingale the pioneer of professional nursing,” she said. “Every day a patient needs to take a bath, sleep in clean beddings, wear clean clothes, eat good food from clean utensils and take a lot of liquids,” she explained, “But you never told me about this before, mother,” complained her daughter. "No, I-didn’t, I'm telling you now,” she answered. “In fact, a patient needs to take a lot of fruits too. In addition, you need to give the patient a lot of time to rest. Show lot of love to your sick child, In that way you will see a lot of improvement. Of course, do not forget to take a patient to hospi tal for medical treatment,” she explained. “Thank you very much mother for your advice,” she said. “You are welcome,” Mrs Nthenda replied.
