Grammar Awareness, pp. 77-78

2. examples: showed, does signal, has continued. I agree because they distinguish between
historical context and ongoing trend.
3. example: has continued. It is used to show research efforts that began in the past and still
ongoing. The present perfect is used for broad statements about research and developments in
the field.
4. The tense of main clause does not control the verb. They are related to the tense of the main
clause. There is very little consistency between the verb in the main clause and the verb in the
dependent (noun) clause. For example, the second paragraph opens with showed … earn.
5. I do not see future tense, which I am not surprised by its absence.

The Internet plays a crucial role in my field of study as it provides am abundance of information and
various resources. It also allows students to contact with their teachers easily despite geographical
barriers, which adds significant value to academic work. Moreover, it reveals new trends and findings,
keeping users up-to-date with the latest news. This affects the speed of research progresses that can
make better outcomes.

In my field, data collection is often performed using surveys or observational techniques. First, the target
population is identified and then then appropriate sampling methods are selected to ensure a
representative group. Once the data has been gathered, it is processed and analyzed using statistical
software. This process is used to extract meaningful patterns and relationships from the data, which can
be applied to broader research questions or policy recommendations.

could finish the practice exercise above effectively.
