FERNCOURT HIGH SCHOOL

Information Technology
School Based Assessment (SBA)
Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC)
For
May/June 2024 Examination
Centre #: 100035

SBA 2024-2025 is now ready for your completion. The project details and description are
given below. Read through the project carefully and begin your solution. The teacher will
guide you through the process.
Rationale forSBA
The SBA is designed to give students the opportunity to demonstrate, on a timely basis, their ability to
solve problems using computer applications such as:
 Database Management
 Web page design
 Spreadsheet
 Word Processing
 Programming Language

Students must ensure they have the necessary backups of their work as this will alleviate any undue
delay of submission caused by malfunctioning thumb drives, hard drives, etc. A good backup is for
students to email their work to themselves periodically and also store on multiple device (phone,
tablet, computer, etc.).

The SBA project is marked out of 85 and is worth 25% of your final CXC-CSEC examination grade.

Meeting deadlines are important for feedback from teacher. Students SHOULD meet all
deadlines has set by teacher.

Failure to complete SBA will result in students not been recommended to sit exam and
been recommended.

TEACHER STUDENTS AGREEMENT

I have read the above rational for the SBA and

understand the terms and condition mention above.

FHS Inform ation Techn ology Scho ol Bas e Ass essme nt (SB A) 20 20-20 21
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
You are the Information Technology (IT) teacher of students from Upper and Lower Sixth form
students at Jamdung Technical High School. Your school is co-educational institution. There are
thirty students doing Information Technology fourteen (14) in UpperSixth and Sixteen (16) in Lower
Sixth. Each student has a course work score, and anotherscore for examinations done at the end of
the term. From these scores, the overall score forthe term computed.
It is customary for the parents/guardians to come in and meet with the teachers to review
their child/ward’s performance and as such there is a fair amount of planning and
preparation necessary. Consequently, the following tasks should be executed:

1. All students information should be transferred from the paper-based teacher register
to an electronic grade book;
2. The course work score and overall score for each student are to be computed
3. Letters of invitation to attend Review Meeting should be sent to parents/guardians;
4. A brochure is to be designed for parents to give tip on how to improve student
performance and exam preparation tips.

SPREADSHEET

Each student’s assessment for the term is comprised of multiple tests, a project and an end
of term exam. The tests and the project are averaged to give a course work score. All items
of assessment are score out of 100.

Your Head of Department wants you to use one or more worksheets to compute the
student’s course work score, overall score and the associated letter grade.

The overall score is computed using a weighted average system which is subject to change.
The weightings and grade tables are as follow:

2
FHS
Assessment Type Weighting Final Score Grade
Course Work 40% >= 80% A
Exam 60% 60 – 79% B
50 – 59% C
40 – 49% D
< 40% E

Each student’s data should contain five scores, inclusive of the score for the exam. One in every
four students gained an A. The table below shows the assessments given for the December Term.

Test #1 Test #2 Test #3 Project Exam

Task A
I. Create a spreadsheet initially using the guidelines given above, taking care to
include the student’s name (first name and last name in separate columns) the ID
(SI with a three digit code eg. SI101) number of each student and the class (Upper
or Lower Sixth).

II. Insert a column in an appropriate position and compute the course work score which
is the average of all non – exam components.
III. In a new column, compute the final score for each student based on the weightings
indicated above.

IV. Numeric values should be displayed in appropriate formats with one (1) decimal
place.

Rename the worksheet as Gradsheet1

Save your spreadsheet as SIT_Grades

3
FHS
TASK B
Duplicate the Gradsheet1worksheet. Rename the duplicate as Gradsheet2.
I. Calculate the lowest, highest and average score for course work and exam scores.
Place these calculations at least 3 rows below the last student. Label the row.

II. The principal have asked that all students that received an overall grade 80% and
above received the Award ‘Honors’, students with overall grade of 50%-79%
received ‘Pass’, otherwise ‘None’. Insert a column to show this.

III. Francesca, the twin sister of the student in row 2, joined the class late in the term
and as such only completed the project and the final examination. She scored full
marks for the project and 64% in the examination. Insert this data in the appropriate
location.

IV. Insert the correct function to find the letter Grade each student received

V. Count the number of students that received a letter grade from A- E.

VI. Sort the data in ascending sequence by last name then by final score.
VII. The administration decided at the last minute to make the weighting of both
assessment components equal. Adjust EACH student’s scores accordingly.

VIII. Use a complex criterion to find ALL students who scored an A. Set up the criteria
range and the extraction range in a blank area. Insert all borders on the criteria and
extraction ranges. Name this work sheet Extraction.

Save your workbook.

TASK C
Charting and Summary Operations
I. Create a pie chart to show the amount of each letter grade received by the students.
Use appropriate labelling for title and include a legend. Move the chart to a new
sheet called Letter_Grade Chart

II. Use a pivot table show the number of students what will received the different
awards (Honors / Pass) be sure to show the grand total for each.
Save your worksheet as Pivot Table

page may or may not exist).

PROBLEM SOLVING
1. Develop an algorithm or write a pseudocode that:
i. Accepts students name, three unit test grades, and project grade exam grades of the
students for any number of students.
ii. Compute students overall grade which comprised of their coursework grade, which is
the average of all non-exam components; the students’ final course grade should be
40% and their exam grade which should be 60% to give a total of 100%. Calculate the
students’ course work grade and the subsequent percentages to ascertain the final grade.
iii. Based on the final grade of the student, the program should generate a letter grade
reflecting the students’ overall grade. The student’s letter grade should range from ‘A’
to ‘E’.

8
iv. Student Award should be outputted also students that received an overall grade of 80%
and above received the Award ‘Honors’, students with overall grade of 50%-79%
received ‘Pass’, otherwise ‘None’.

v. Output the student’s name, final grade and letter grade and award received. The
program is terminated when the user enters “XXX” as a student name.

1. Design and execute a trace table that accepts three unit test grades, a project grade and
exam grades for at least ten students. The table should trace the calculations of the
course work grade, final percentages of course work and exam and the overall grades
of the students and award received. The letter grade ascertained for each final grade
should also be reflected in the table.
