Assignment 01
Brief:
The brief of the exercise
was to learn about the
color theory of particular
color theorists and write an
review about it. This was
to learn color theories and
get an understanding of
colors were derived through
various experiments and
thoughts. Here I got Moses
Harris as a color theorist.

Objective:
The main objective was to
let us know different color
theories so that we can have
a broader view on how color
interactions take place.

Literature Review
Moses Harris was an color in order to get to its
entomologist and an emotional aspect as well.

question asked by his The other thing that I
uncle. This made me understood is that the
learn that if colors are newton’s color formation
arranged linearly would was based on light while
make it difficult to find for Moses Harris it was
their multiple meanings the formation of black
as they will be forced to color when primitives
perceive. It is because are mixed in equal
every color has two other amount because light
colors beside it but if is merely a medium to
placed in circular form it see the colors and hence
will interact with every white is a lack of color.

The color theory:
MOSES HARRIS
[entomologist engraver 1730 – 1788]
Country of origin: England

The theory arose due to a thought when Moses Harris’s

uncle told him that to paint an insect he must need 50
shades of brown, but as we saw according to the newton
there were only seven colors and brown was not even
taken into account. So he began working on it with the
help of newton’s theory and the basic colors he found in
nature i.e.,Primitives and Mediates. He made two color
wheels named as Prismatic and Compound color wheel.
And according to him primitives are the only colors
through which every other color/tint/shade is formed.

Particularly he made compound wheel using the mediates

so as to obtain maximum amount of browns that might be
needed to paint the insects. Hence he formed 660 shades
of colors by the three primary colors. The color wheel was
made using water colors by appyling it in layers. All of
his understandings were then compiled in a 10 page book
called “The Natural Systems of Colors”.

The arrangement of colors has been done to make it easy

to find the contrasting color. The color wheel formed is
helping to find the hidden relationship with each and
every color.

Assignment 02
Brief:
The brief about the exercise was to portray
your partners qualities in simplest form.
The simplification was to be done in three
parts i.e., project, perceive, possess. The
observations can then be represented by
appropriate colors. We were asked to trace the
contour of the face first and then transfer the
final outcome in illustrator. It was to get an
understanding of how composition play a vital
role to make any ideation look eye catching.

Objective:
The main objective was to make us learn
how the meaning of emotions can be
shown through unusual colors. It tell us
how the same thing can be perceived
differently through the use of different
color palates. Everything around us
is made of form and color but the
composition is an important part of it.
Composing the slightest details can make
a whole lot of difference.

observations:

Perceive- Shy, nervous, scared
Possess- Overthinking,
Responsible, sincere.

Final Outcome:
The final outcome that i displayed was this. The
color I used also depict her qualities such as:
white- humble
Blue-shyness
Pink-polite
Yellow-scared
Brown- Grounded

Perception of the final outcome:

The portrait was made with the observations
made earlier but after the final outcome I can
see the different things that can be percieved in
terms of characteristics. I see that the portrait’s
character being portrayed is blind by that
means that she don’t want to see anything bad
in anyone. The hidden mouth suggest that she
doesn’t want to talk bad and be rude to anyone. It
also feels that she doesn’t want to open up easily
and is not willing to be her real self infront of
the new people around her.

Assignment 03
Brief:
This exercise was based on photography. The
brief about the exercise was to capture the
different topics based on stages of life. Such
as for example we got the topic as profession
so, we were asked to capture that and focus on
color to show that through this color, India can
be represented.

Objective:
The main objective was to learn that
how every color is present around us
and unknowingly they represent various
things and hence are identified by the
same. These also let us know that how
luxury and mediocrity have different
colors to be identified as.

Assignment 04
Brief:
The brief about this assignment was to make a
model based on color theory. This was a group
assignment and we were asked to work on newtons
color theory. This model making gave us an
understanding of how newton discovered different
observations of the nature of light.
The model was based on his theory that when
two complementary colors are mixed we get either
secondary colors or near to white colored light.

Objective:
The main objective was to practically understand
the color theories that were given by color
theorists. And to know how colors were derived
by various means and how they interact with
each other.

17
Ideation:
The basic idea behind
our model:
As we know that newton’s color
theory was based on light.
According to the research we
found out that when we mix the
complementary colors we get
a tone or shade of white light,
but it has its own exception that
red and green light when mixed Idea 01 Isometric view
together forms a yellow light.
Our model consists of seven
color according to newtons
color wheel. Here, we took
acrylic sheets as a medium to
perform the experiment. All
the sheets have been placed
at an angle so that every light
intersect at the wall behind.
Also when we mix the three Idea 02 Placement Of The Acrylic Sheeets
Calculations
primary colors i.e., red, blue,
green gives us the white light.

18
Exploration and material sourcing:

The above images shows how we were making our color model. As in the first four pictures represent
that we went in stores to choose the colored acrylic sheets and then cutting them into required sizes. The
other images shows the experimentation of our model and then working on model making.
19
3D Blender Exploration:

The above model ideations are made in blender to know that how our physical model will look like.

20
Final outcome:

This are the final outcome of the model and the images show that every two color when mixed with each other
forms a white light or there are exceptions in some colors.

22
Overall Learning

The overall learning from this

module is that this provides us a
learning of how color and form
interact with each other as well
as how it creates a meaning on
its own through its composition.
Composition plays a vital role in
expressing the simplest form.
Simple composition often has lot
of hidden ideations and reasoning
behind ones thought. I learnt how
different materials work during the
model making’s material sourcing.
