UNIT – I
1 (a) Derive the average and rms value of a sinusoidal voltage of magnitude Vm.
(b) Determine the current flowing in 10Ω resistor in the network shown in figure below by using
Superposition theorem.

2 (a) What do you understand by real power, reactive power and apparent power?
(b) A coil having a resistance of 12Ω and an inductance of 0.1H is connected across a 100 V, 50 Hz
supply. Calculate: (i) The reactance and the impedance of the coil. (ii) The current flowing in the
coil. (iii) The power factor.
UNIT – II
3 (a) Draw and explain the internal characteristics of DC shunt motor.
(b) A 6-pole lap wound DC generator has 600 conductors on its armature. Flux per pole is 0.02 Wb,
speed is 1500 rpm. Calculate EMF generated. Also calculate EMF generated if the generator is
wave wounded.
OR
4 (a) Explain the procedure for performing the open circuit test on a single phase transformer.
(b) Explain any one of the speed control techniques of D.C shunt motor.

5 With a neat layout diagram, explain the working of thermal power station.

(b) Distinguish between combinational and sequential logic circuits.

11 (a) With a block diagram, explain the elements of communication system.
(b) Compare AM and FM.

12 (a) Define modulation. Discuss the need for modulation in communication systems.
(b) Briefly explain the working of mobile communication system.
