How to apply?
It’s as easy as 1 2 3
1 Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download NSFAS App
on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

2 Click on the ‘Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your
application supporting documents, indicated.

3 Submit your application.

Opening date: 21 November 2023


Closing date: 31 January 2024

Who are we?


NSFAS is a public entity under the Department of
Higher Education and Training. NSFAS provides
financial help through study bursaries to deserving
students at public TVET colleges and universities.

The funding covers the cost of registration, tuition as


well as allowances for learning material, living
allowance, personal care, transport or
accommodation.

Assisting millions South Africans to achieve their dreams.

Who qualifies for


funding?
• South African citizens or permanent residents
• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household
income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons with disabilities whose combined
gross household income is not more than
R600 000 per year.

Who should not apply?


• Students who have already applied and received funding
in previous academic cycles, have not yet graduated on
their current qualification and do not intend to change
from one sector to another (TVET College to University
or vice versa). They are automatically funded for the
duration of their studies, provided they pass their
modules and meet the academic requirements.

It is very important that during the application,


applicant provides the correct ID number,
name(s) and surname as reflected in their ID
documents.
NSFAS will validate the ID upfront. This will allow us to evaluate your application with
the validated and correct information received from the Department of Home Affairs
(DHA), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Department of Basic Education
(DBE) and others.

• User-friendly application form that you can complete anytime, anywhere, on a


mobile device or computer.
• Reduce time spent on completing an application.
• Improve the accuracy of the application through data validation of fields.

Required documents
Note:

You must create a myNSFAS profile to


apply. You must have your cellphone and
email address available when you apply.

An OTP pin will be sent to you to activate


your Profile and this will allow NSFAS to
communicate with you.

Required Information
All applicants must provide:
• Valid South African ID number of Applicant
• Valid South African ID number of parent(s), guardian or spouse
• Income information where applicable.

All required information must be completed on the online form.


Note: If you are a SASSA recipient, then no proof of income is required.
Based on the application type, the system will generate a list of required documents for upload.

Required documents.
Students with disabilities must provide:
A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (available on the website)

Students recognised as vulnerable child must provide:


An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide
completed and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker (available on the website)

Students –who has indicated no family members details must provide:


An applicant who have indicated that s/he has no family member details must complete the 2024 Declaration
Form (available on the website)
Other documents that may be required for appeals purposes:
• Retrenchment letter,
• Death certificate/s
• Proof of legal guardianship
• Marriage certificate

Note: No affidavits or copy of driver’s license will be accepted as proof of ID
