4.2.7 Output Boxes, Reject Box, and Waste Collection Container

Output Boxes
The unit outputs the sample tubes into the respective output bo-
xes according to the sorting rule or search criterion. Usually each
output box is assigned to a specific analyzer.
The bottoms of the output boxes are lined with rubber mats. This
prevents sample tubes from being damaged when falling into the
output boxes.
The rubber mats must always be in the output boxes when
the device is in operation.
You should only remove them for cleaning purposes.

The sliding doors in front of the output boxes

– can be raised and lowered continuously and
– can be secured in place at any position.

The output boxes slope down toward the sliding doors. For this
reason, sample tubes can fall out when the doors are opened.
Always keep a suitable collection container under the sliding
door when you open it. „

Light Barrier 3
The light barrier running along the upper parts of the output bo-
xes monitors the levels in the boxes. As soon as an output box
has reached the maximum fill level, a message is displayed on
the touch screen, and the unit stops.

Each time a button is touched, an acoustic confirmation signal is

Pressing the power button turns on the unit.
Two initialization displays appear successively on the touch
screen: During the initialization process (duration: approx. 18 se-
conds), components (conveyor belts, tube slide, etc.) are set in
motion.
Pressing the power button again turns off the unit.
4.2.9 Housing
The housing protects
– the components in the unit's interior and

– the operator from moving parts in the unit (e.g., cooling blo-
wer, motor drives, conveyor belts, etc.).

Only the authorized customer service representative or the

device supervisor may remove the housing panels on the
unit.

4.2.10 Adjustable Feet

The unit is equipped with four wheels.
Only transport the unit along a level surface.
The two wheels on the front of the unit are each equipped with a
brake.
Always lock them after moving the unit.

4.3 Sorting Operation

The device distributes sample tubes according to sorting rules or
entered user-defined search criteria.
1. The sample tubes are placed in the sample tube compart-
ment of the unit.

2. After a sorting rule has been selected or search criteria have

been entered, the sorting operation begins.
3. The stepped conveyor in the sample tube compartment con-
veys the sample tubes onto conveyor belt I of the separating
belt.

– Special guides prevent sample tube jams from occurring.
– A deflector conveys piled-up sample tubes back to the
sample tube compartment.
5. Conveyor belt II conveys the tubes to the tube slide.
– Light barrier 1 on conveyor belt II monitors the transport of
the sample tubes to the tube slide.
6. The tube slide takes the sample tubes one at a time and
slides them onto the tube roller.
– Light barrier 2 in the tube slide detects the presence of a
sample tube.
7. The tube roller rotates the sample tubes so that the bar codes
can be read by the bar code scanner.
8. The bar code scanner reads the bar codes and transmits the
results to the device controller.
If a laboratory information system (LIS) is connected:
– The device controller sends a request with the read bar code
to the laboratory information system (LIS) and receives a
command (profile) from the laboratory information system
(LIS) for this bar code.

9. The device controller applies the saved sorting rule or the se-
arch criterion.
10. The sorting belt transports the sample tubes toward the out-
put boxes/reject box.
– The ejectors on the sorting belt distribute the sample tubes
among the corresponding output boxes.
– Sample tubes that cannot be sorted or that are defective
are routed to the reject box.
11. The sorted sample tubes are collected in the output boxes.
– Light barrier 3 above the output boxes monitors the levels
of the boxes. As soon as an output box has reached the
maximum fill level, a message is displayed on the touch
screen, and the sorting operation stops.
12. After or during the sorting operation, the operator empties the
contents of the output boxes into suitable collection contai-
ners.
