Document Overview
This document serves as a guideline of testing procedures to verify that the implemented design, specified in the
ACME Project Architecture Design Document, is successful from technical point of view, i.e. has no technical issues
or problems. These procedures are based on licensing and technologies used in ACME Project Architecture Design
Document.

This document assumes that users of this document will be familiar with VMware vSphere concepts and
technology as well as accompanying design documents. This document is not intended for engineers who have no
prior knowledge of vSphere concepts and terminology.

Verification Test Plan

Verification Tests
Test No. Test Description Test Tasks Summary Expected Results
Usability Tests
VER-UT01 Verify AD Accounts Using any of AD accounts that Account will log in successfully
accessibility to have permissions, log in vSphere
vCenter Web Client
VER-UT02 Verify AD Accounts Using any of AD accounts that Account will log in successfully
accessibility to ESXi have permissions, log in vSphere
Hosts Client on any host
Reliability Tests
VER-RT01 Verify that Hosts ping Using DCUI, test Management Ping attempts are all successful
each other, Network using three other hosts
Management Layer IPs, Gateway IP, vCenter IP, VUM
components, and IP and Syslog/Core Dumps
their gateway Collector IP
VER-RT02 Verify that Hosts Using DCUI, test DNS connectivity Resolve is successful
resolve FQDNs by by resolving any of Management
contacting ACME’s Layer components FQDN
DNS servers
VER-RT03 Verify that DRS & Push a host, from each cluster, All VMs -even powered off or
vMotion is working into “Maintenance Mode” suspended- will be evacuated using
Successfully vMotion and host will enter
Maintenance Mode successfully
VER-RT04 Verify that Anti- Try to gather two VMs, with Anti - When the migration start, the other
Affinity Rules are affinity rule configured, on same VM will be migrated instantly to
working successfully host using vMotion other host to respect the rule
VER-RT05 Verify that HA and Using UCS Management Console, - HA will restart the failed VMs after
DRS will work shutdown an ESXI host from each host failure detection
successfully by cluster - DRS will migrate some VMs, if
simulating a host needed, to provide compute power
failure needed to host failed over VMs with
un-balancing the cluster
- Adv. Setting
“das.respectVmVmAntiAffinit
yRules” will force HA to respect Anti-
affintiy rules and will not restart a
VM on a host if it’ll break the rules
VER-RT06 Verify that Network - Disconnect all Uplinks on Side-A An alarm will be generated on all
failover is working FEX Modules on a chassis to Side-A hosts, but all networking will failover
successfully FI successfully to Side-B. Ping will
- Ping one host on a chassis continue successfully
continuously using “ping -t”
VER-RT07 Verify that Network - Reconnect all Uplinks on Side-A An alarm will be generated on all
failback is working FEX Modules on the chassis to hosts and all networking will failback
successfully Side-A FI successfully to Side-A. Ping will
- Ping one host on the chassis continue successfully
continuously using “ping -t”

Verification Test Plan

VER-RT08 Verify that Storage After disconnecting all Uplinks in As Path Selection Policy is set to
Paths failover is the previous test (VER-RT06), Round Robin, no failover happens,
working successfully confirm that hosts can still access but all LUNs will be accessed with no
all LUNs without any issue issue from all Hosts
VER-RT09 Verify that Storage Push a Datastore, from each Storage DRS will create migration
DRS is working cluster with SDRS enabled, into recommendations for all VMs disks
successfully “Maintenance Mode” existing on this Datastore. Operation
will not complete successfully till all
disks are migrated
VER-RT10 Verify that Storage After previous test (VER-RT09), Storage vMotion will operate
vMotion is working apply any recommendation, to successfully and the
successfully test Storage vMotion recommendation will be successfully
applied
Performance Tests
VER-PT01 Verify that DRS - Install a CPU/Memory Load DRS will migrate some VMs to other
balances the cluster Generator on some testing VMs hosts in the cluster to distribute and
on same host balance the load
- Generate CPU/Memory Load
from all VM simultaneously
VER-PT02 Verify that Using Web Client, check any - Hardware Acceleration (VAAI) will
Datastores are Datastore VAAI Status (Hardware be supported on all ESXi Hosts
claimed correctly, Acceleration) and Multi-pathing - SATP Rule used to claim the
hence VAAI is SATP and PSP rules. Datastore will be
supported VMW_SATP_ALUA_CX
- PSP Rule used to handle paths and
traffic will be Round Robin
VER-PT03 Verify that SDRS IO - Install IO Load Generator on Storage DRS will create migration
load balancing is some testing VMs on same recommendations to balance the
working successfully Datastore in Datastores Cluster of Datastore on next invocation (after
Tier 2 or 3 16 hours in its worst case)
- Generate IO Load from all VMs
simultaneously for more than 1.6
hours
VER-PT04 Verify that SDRS On a Datastore in Tier 2 or Tier 3 Storage DRS will create migration
Space load balancing Datastores Cluster, gather many recommendations to resolve the
is working VMs disks on same Datastore, till issue immediately
successfully the Space Threshold (80%) is
passed
