Final Project Report Guideline

Deadline: Final project due 11:59 pm ET on December 18th, 2024

Please hand in everything electronically via Canvas Assignment.

Elements of the final project report:


The project report must have the following elements:

Title

Name of the author, and the detailed contribution of each author

Abstract
A brief description of the research topic, research approach, data (if any), empirical strategy (if
any), and results. No more than 250 words.

Introduction
The introduction describes the research topic, the goal of the project, and the significance of the
research topic.

Literature Review
This section summarizes existing studies on your research topic.

Research Approach
This section describes in detail how you examine the research topic.

Data (if any)


This section describes how you obtained your data and discusses the quality and
representativeness of the data. You should also introduce your main variables and how you
measure them in this section. A table of descriptive statistics should be included, which lists the
mean and the standard deviation of each continuous variable and the proportion of each
categorical variable category in your data. Some variables may have missing values. The
percentage of missing for each variable has to be clearly written.

Empirical Strategy (if any)


This section describes the sets of statistical techniques you are using.

Results
This section reports your results. How you get the results should be described in details.

References
All references should be cited in the format of (author surname, year) in the main text. A
separate reference section is needed, which lists all the reference in APA style (On Google
Scholar, search the article, click on cite (”), and copy the APA style citation).

For example, an APA style citation looks like

Zang, E., & Dirk de Graaf, N. (2016). Frustrated achievers or satisfied losers? Inter-and
intragenerational social mobility and happiness in China. Sociological Science, 3, 779-800.

In the text where you cite this article, you should use (Zang and De Graaf, 2016) at the end of
your sentence.

Conclusions and Discussions


This section provides a summary of your findings, limitations of your project, implications of
your results, and avenues for future work.

Formatting
The report is expected be between 15 and 20 pages, excluding references, figures, and tables.
The text needs to be double spaced with a font size of 12. Pages need to be numbered throughout
the text of the manuscript. All figure and tables should be numbered and put at the end of the
manuscript.
