Food Ordering System

**Abstract**

The Food Ordering System integrates a platform that re-orders the food ordering

process for both the customers and the restaurant staff. It is operational both on the web and

mobile applications. The customers can browse menus, order, and track the status of the order

in real-time. On the other hand, the administration and staff can efficiently manage orders

through a centralized admin dashboard. The system is secure and efficient to handle customer

information and transactions. It implements user authentication, secure password storage, and

encryption of payment data to offer a reliable and trustworthy platform for the customers.

**Problem Statement**

In the fast-growing food delivery industry, ordering food on time and securely is the

main worrying aspect for the customers and the delivery companies. According to Ordermark

(2021), 73% of the customers want an easy way of ordering their food. Ordering food may be

a risky affair due to unreliable websites and may end up losing essential information. This

issue has led to the Need for the online food ordering and management system. Research

shows that online food ordering is a growing business. Software Advice (2019) reported that

58% of food delivery companies receive orders through online channels. However, most food

delivery websites and apps have a user experience problem due to lack of an orderly

arrangement, which leads to loss of customer satisfaction (Lim, 2019). Security is also a

significant factor that needs to be addressed during the ordering process. As a result, the trend

has been shifting as many people are preferring to order food online hence becoming a

necessity in the fast development of the food delivery business.

**Objective of the Project**

3

1. To simplify the food ordering process through a user-friendly interface for the

customers and restaurants.

2. Implement a secure and reliable system to manage customer data, order and

transactions.

3. Implement a real-time order tracking for a better user experience and operational

efficiency.

**Website Description**

I. Overview

The Food Ordering System's website is designed in a responsive layout, so it works

on both the desktop and mobile browsers. Customers can create accounts, add items from

various restaurants and customize their orders through the website, and then they can securely

pay for their orders. There is an admin portal where the restaurant staff can add menu items,

view orders, and manage deliveries. In order to ensure that sensitive data and operations are

handled properly, the website will implement role-based access; this means that access to

functionalities will depend on the role of the user. Whether you are a customer, administrator,

or delivery person, you will have access to features that you need (Mohsin et al., 2021).

# **Mobile Application**

The mobile application is a complement to the website. It is tailored for the customers to

order and keep track of their orders effortlessly. The mobile application comes packed with the

following features:

- **Order Notifications:** The application sends notifications alerting users whenever their

order status changes.

- **QR-Based Delivery Confirmation:** After the delivery person has dropped the ordered

meals, they will have to scan a unique QR code to confirm the delivery.

- **Real-time Order Tracking:** Customers can check their order's location and estimated

delivery time in real-time.

4

- **Secure Payment Process:** The app rigorously encrypts payment details.

- **Account Management:** The mobile also manages login and keeps your activities very

secure, just like the website.

Description**

The Food Ordering System consists of the following functionalities:

- **Customer Module** - It has a lot of features intended for the customer. They can create

accounts, login securely, browse menus, and place their orders.

- **Admin Module** - The administrator has direct access to this module, which provides a

portal where they can adjust menus, monitor orders, and generate sales reports.

- **Delivery Module** - Delivery personnel can view all pending orders and confirm deliveries

by scanning a QR code attributed to their order.

**Key Features**

- **Secure Authentication:** This system secures the user's password. This is done by

hashing all credentials with `bcrypt`.

- **Data Encryption:** Payment and order details are encrypted using AES encryption to

prevent unauthorized access.

- **Role-Based Access Control:** The system can distinguish between different roles' features

and permissions. Users are only allowed to access features their roles allow them.

**Hardware Description**

The Food Ordering System requires the following hardware components:

1. QR Code Scanner for delivery confirmation.

---

**Software Tools**

1. For web development, we will use **Sublime Text**.

2. For mobile app development, we will use **Android Studio**.

5

3. **XAMPP** will be used for a local server and database management.
