Activity-3
Activity-3
The Global Footprint Network, a California -based environmental nonprofit organization, reported an increase
in the demand on Earth’s natural resources which is affected by the increase in human population. In Figure 2, the
increasing trend reflects how humans have been consuming natural resources more than the planet can
regenerate. Currently, we live as if we had two planet Earth’s which means that we all are living with the growing
ecological debt to our planet that may lead to a future depletion of our natural resources ( Richardson,2018).
Guide Questions:
Sustainable utilization of natural resources is the proper management of natural resources for the benefit of
the entire human community. Sustainable development means to provide resources for present generations
without compromising the needs of future generations.
As individuals, we can do many things to help in sustaining our natural resources. Turning off light, repairing
leaky faucets ,and recycling paper, aluminum cans ,glass, and plastic are just a few examples. Riding
bikes ,walking, carpooling, and using public transportation all help conserve fuel and reduce the number of
pollutants released into the environment. Individuals can plant trees to create home for birds and animals. At
grocery, stores, people can bring their own reusable bags. And people can carry reusable water bottles and coffee
mugs rather than using disposable containers. If each of us conserved in small ways, the result would be a major
conservation effort.
