1-2. Cleaning of Air Filter

In this unit, an air filter is attached to the back of the front panel. If dust adheres to the filter, the air flow is
interrupted and the inside of unit gets hot, which may cause a performance problem of this unit.
It is recommended to periodically clean the air filter depending on the environment and the status of use
in the theater.

Cleaning

1. Turn off the power of this unit.

2. Remove the front panel assembly.
(Refer to step 10 in Section 1-1.)

3. Remove the filter in the direction of the arrow.

4. Vacuum the dust adhered to the filter.

1-3. Lead-free Solder

Boards requiring use of lead-free solder are printed with a lead free mark (LF) indicating the solder
contains no lead.
(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with the lead free mark due to their particular
size.)

: LEAD FREE MARK

m
. Be sure to use the lead-free solder for the printed circuit board printed with the lead free mark.
. The lead-free solder melts at a temperature about 40 dC higher than the ordinary solder, therefore, it is
recommended to use the soldering iron having a temperature regulator.
. The ordinary soldering iron can be used but the iron tip has to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly
longer time. The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the heated tip is applied for too long, so
be careful.

2-1. Log Acquisition

2-1-1. Service Log Acquisition

To acquire the service log of this unit, use a service log snapshot function in GUI of SMS.
(Refer the SMS manual for more details.)

2-1-2. Event Log and List

In this unit, the execution recording of operation is left as an event log file. Information during occurrence
of a warning or failure as well as events occurring in this unit is recorded in the event log file. The opera-
tion state of this unit can be checked in GUI of SMS. To acquire the previous event information, retrieve
an event log file using a “service log snapshot” function of SMS.
The “service log snapshot” function also gathers the debug log for a service support engineer as well as
the event log for a service engineer and compresses it as a zip file. This function expands only an event
log file below “./snapshot/mtm/log/mtlog” of the retrieved zip file. The contents of the event log file can
be checked using a text editor.
Refer to the Operation Manual of SMS GU for how to use the “service log snapshot” function.

. After the rebuilding is started and the indicator on the upper portion of the slot of the HDD that reached
the end of its life is turned off, the HDD can be discarded (remove from the slot) (usually it can be
discarded immediately after the rebuilding is started).
. Insert the new spare HDD into the emptied slot after discarding the old HDD. The rebuilding of HDD
that is in the next serious condition starts automatically. In this way, the rebuilding process is performed
efficiently.

m
. Do not pull out the old HDD from the slot before the indicator turns off.
. Be sure to confirm the disposal method when picking up this unit or HDD because the stored contents
are the user’s property. When discarding the HDD, the user’s approval is required.
. Before discarding the HDD, be sure to destroy it physically.

m
. The HDD rebuilding process takes approximately 12 hours.
. The film showing and DCP ingesting can be performed even during the rebuilding process. In this case,
the rebuilding process is interrupted and the time required for rebuilding process is prolonged by just
that time.

Identifying the abnormal HDD

1. Check the ALARM indicator (D112) on the DP-455 board. (Refer to Section 1-4-2.)
. Lights in green:
Unit is operating normally. (Flashes when initializing the unit.)
. Flashes in amber:
There is one HDD that needs to be replaced. In this state, the film can be shown normally.
. Lights in red:
There are two HDDs that need to be replaced. In this state, the film can be shown normally for a
while. However, it will be difficult after a short time.

n
Depending on the user authorization given by SMS, it is possible to know which HDD needs to be
replaced by viewing the SMS menu window. For details of SMS, refer to the manual supplied with
SMS.

2. Remove the front panel. (Refer to Section 3-2-1.)

Check that the indicator on the upper portion of the slot is not lit (or flashing) in green.
n
IF all indicators on the upper portion of the slot are lit (or flashing) in green when the ALARM indi-
cator (D112) on the DP-455 board flashes in amber or red, a part other than the HDD unit is defective.

3. Replace the HDD whose indicator on the upper portion of the slot is turned off.
n
Do not replace the HDD whose indicator on the upper portion of the slot is lit (or flash) in amber
because it is in the process of the record reproduction.
Once all HDDs whose indicators are off are replaced, the HDD indicator flashing (or staying lit) in
amber turns off. Check that the indicator is turned off, and replace the corresponding HDD.

Section 4
Circuit Description

4-1. Overall Configuration

n
Refer to “6-1. Overall Block Diagram” for the circuit block diagrams of all boards of this unit. Refer to
“6-2. Frame Wiring” for the connection diagrams.

A motherboard (MB-1143 board) is located in the center of a chassis. A control panel (DP-455 board), a
dedicated interface unit (CP-406 board), a general-purpose interface unit (IO-243 board), and one SSD
unit for an SMS server are mounted on the front side. Moreover, seven HDD units including four HDD
units for data, two HDD units for ECC, and one spare HDD unit are mounted. The SSD and HDD units
can be replaced by using a caddy structure where an IF-1036 board is installed in the HDD drive and
IF-1180 board is installed in SSD. A system control board (PU-131 board) and decode board (SSP-
27/27A/27B board) are mounted on the rear side. Two redundant fan units and two power units can be
mounted. (One power unit has been provided as a standard feature, and one power unit can be added
optionally.) An SMSCPU board that controls the whole projection system and a CPU board (MPU-148
board) that controls a media block are mounted on the PU-131 board. An audio signal processing board
(APR-85 board) is mounted on the SSP-27 board.
A CN-3058 board that mounts a fan control circuit and backup battery is located in the fan unit.

4-2. MB-1143 Board

The MB-1143 board mounts a PU-131 board, an SSP-27/27A/27B board, a CP-406 board, three IO-243
boards, an SSD unit, seven HDD units, a power unit, and two fan units. It is used to connect each board
and the signal lines between units and supply power. The MB-1143 board also mounts LED correspond-
ing to each HDD unit and displays the HDD status.

4-3. MPU-148 Board

The MPU-148 board mounts CPU that controls a media block. It has a function that communicates with
SMS, a function that imports a DCP contents material group to internal HDD, a playback control function,
and an internal log storage function. The MPU-148 board also has a function that generates the caption
data synchronized with video data and writes it into the memory of a caption processing block. The
MPU-148 board uses MPC8540 as CPU and mounts DDR SDRAM DIMM of 512 MB as main memory.
Various I/F signals (CPU Localbus, PCI-X, and TSEC (network I/F)) from CPU are output to CN2100.

LMT-300 4-1 (E)

4-4. PU-131 Board

The PU-131 board mounts two functional blocks, that is, an SMS block which realizes an SMS function
that controls the whole projection system and a media block controller which controls the ingestion or
reproduction of DCP.

4-4-1. SMS Block

An SMSCPU board is mounted in CN101 on the PU-131 board and connected with peripheral devices
from various interfaces of PCI/VGA/USB/Gigabit Ethernet, LPC, and SATA. Gigabit Ethernet devices
(IC205 and IC305) are connected to a PCI signal and then connected to the CTRL IN terminal (CN201)
and PRJ CTRL terminal (CN301) on the rear panel. A VGA signal is directly connected to the VGA termi-
nal (CN3502) on the rear panel, and a USB1-4 signal is directly connected to the INGEST PORT/TPC
terminal (CN401) and SPARE1/SPARE2 terminal (CN402) on the rear panel. A USB5-6 signal is con-
nected to the CP-406 board through the MB-1143 board, and a SATA signal is connected to the SSD
assembly through the MB-1143 board. An LPC signal is converted into an I2C signal using FPGA
(IC1602) and connected to PLD on the CP-406 and IO-243 boards so as to receive and send a GPIO
signal. SMS and media blocks controller are connected through IC3501 on the PU-131 board using a
Gigabit Ethernet signal and used for inter-block communication, control, and DCP ingestion.

4-4-2. Media Block Controller

An MPU-148 board is mounted in CN1001 on the PU-131 board and connected with peripheral devices
using a CPU local bus or PCI-X bus.
A DATA IN terminal (CN3001) is connected to the MPU-148 board through IC3001 on the PU-131 board.
FPGA (IC4501) on the PU-131 board has a data striping function to HDD, an ECC addition/correction
function, an HDD rebuild function, a recording/playback data buffering function using SO-DIMM, and a
data transfer function to the SSP-27/27A board so as to realize the matrix DMA transfer between PCI-X,
SATA, SO-DIMM, and LVDSIF circuits. This media block is connected from SAS1064 (IC7001 and
IC7501), connected to PCI-X of FPGA, to the HDD unit so as to record and reproduce a DCP contents
material group to and from HDD. CPU MISC FPGA (IC1602) has a function for performing the I2C bus
control on and out of a board, performing the LED control on the MB-1143 or DP-455 board, and moni-
toring the status of a power unit. Moreover, this block mounts NVRAM (IC2008 to IC2011) that stores
various parameters or logs of HDD using a backup battery (BATT1), a DC-DC converter circuit (consist-
ing of IC2301, IC2400, and IC2101) that generates various voltages from a voltage of +12 V supplied to
the PU-131 board, and an ISPPAC circuit (IC1503) that monitors each voltage.

n
Never pull out the PU-131 board because there is a circuit that stores data using a battery.

4-2 (E) LMT-300

4-5. SSP-27A/SSP-27B Board

SSP-27A board/SSP-27B board (DEC-177 board)

It separates the audio and video tracks, encoded using AES, from the audio and video MXF track files of
DCP data for AES decoding. The decoded PCM audio data is converted into an AES/EBU digital audio
format and output from AUDIO OUTPUT2 (CN1) as a 16-CH balance signal. And simultaneously, it is
sent to the PU-131 board through the MB-1143 board and output from AUDIO OUTPUT1 (CN3201) on
the PU-131 board as an 8-CH unbalance output signal.
The JPEG2000 compressed video data is decoded into the 4K base band data in the JPEG2000 decoding
block and rearranged in a VIF block (IC1801) consisting of FPGA and DDR memory. Then, it is sent to
the MIX BLOCK (IC3201).
The caption data is stored in the DDR memory of a caption block through LVDSIF and sent to the MIX
block at the display timing synchronized with a video signal.
In the MIX block, the caption data is converted from 2K to 4K and overlaid on video data. The data is
then output from CN5 and CN6 to a projector through an output signal processing block.

Never pull out the SSP-27A/27B board because there is a circuit that stores data using a battery.

4-6. DP-455 Board

The DP-455 board is mainly used for service maintenance or manufacturing adjustment. It mounts LEDs
(READY, PLAY, and ALARM) or switches (start mode selection/test signal reproduction) displayed on
the front panel of this unit. Each LED or switch is connected to FPGA (IC1602) on the PU-131 board
using PLD (IC200).

4-7. IF-1036 Board

The IF-1036 board has a function that supplies power to the SATA signal from the PU-131 board, the
interface circuit to HDD, and HDD. The IF-1036 board and HDD are integrated as the unit structure
called a caddy. They can be thus replaced each other.

4-8. IF-1180/IF-1036A Board

The IF-1180 board has a function that supplies power to the SATA signal from the PU-131 board, the
interface circuit to SSD, and SSD. The IF-1180 board and SSD are integrated as the unit structure called a
caddy. They can be thus replaced each other.
Moreover, the IF-1036A board may be included in the old SSD. The IF-1036A board must be distin-
guished from the IF-1036 board for HDD, because of the IF-1036A board mounts difference ROM.

LMT-300 4-3 (E)

4-9. CN-3058 Board

Two fans are connected to the CN-3058 board, which mounts two coin batteries. The fan rotation and
battery voltage are monitored using an I2C interface (IC2) and voltage monitoring circuit (consisting of
IC100 and IC101). The obtained status information is sent to CPU on the PU-131 board. Mounted battery
BT100 is used for the PU-131 board, and BT101 is used for the SSP-27/27A board. The redundancy of
batteries is realized by mounting fan units A and B including the CN-3058 board.

m
. The PU-131 or SSP-27/27A board mounts a circuit that stores data using a battery mounted in CN-3058
board. Therefore, do not pull out two fan units simultaneously while the power of this unit is off.
. A battery voltage cannot be normally monitored when coin batteries are not mounted or when the coin
battery voltage is low extremely. Replace four coin batteries immediately when the voltage monitoring
alarm of this unit is output. (Refer to Section 3-4-3.)

4-10. CP-406 Board

The CP-406 board has a function that interfaces with external dedicated equipment. It is connected to a
UPS serial control system (CN201), an audio serial control system (CN203), STATUS LIGHT (CN204),
and DCOUT (CN205) using connectors on the front panel. PLD (IC102) always communicates with SMS
CPU through FPGA (IC1602) on the PU-131 board so as to control the whole system.

4-11. IO-243 Board

The IO-243 board has a GPIO control interface function. Six GPO systems and four GPI systems are
mounted on one IO-243 board. Three IO-243 boards are connected to the MB-1143 board. PLD (IC102)
always communicates with SMS CPU through FPGA (IC1602) on the PU-131 board so as to control the
whole system.

4-12. Power Unit

This unit mounts one power unit that supplies power to each board. A power switch is provided on the
rear panel. It can turn on and off +12 VDC that is output from the power unit. One power unit (option)
can be added to obtain redundant configuration.

SAFETY CHECK-OUT

After correcting the original service problem,

perform the following safety checks before
releasing the set to the customer :

Check the metal trim, “metallized” knobs,

screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC
leakage. Check leakage as described below.

LEAKAGE TEST

The AC leakage from any exposed metal part

to earth ground and from all exposed metal
parts to any exposed metal part having a return
to chassis, must not exceed 3.5 mA. Leakage
current can be measured by any one of three
methods.

1. A commercial leakage tester, such as the

Simpson 229 or RCA WT-540A. Follow the
manufacturers’ instructions to use these
instruments.
2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The
Data Precision 245 digital multimeter is
suitable for this job.
3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor
by means of a VOM or battery-operated AC
voltmeter. The “limit” indication is 5.25 V, so
analog meters must have an accurate low-
voltage scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa
SH-63Trd are examples of a passive VOM
that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated
digital multimeters that have a 20 V AC
range are suitable. (See Fig. A)
