TOPIC: SOURSES OF ENERGY

I. Introduction
1. Information about the energy
 Name: Fossil fuels, which were formed underground from plant and
animal remains millions of years ago. As you all know, I would like to
talk about fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas, which have
gained popularity in Vietnam.
 Distribution: Years ago, when prehistoric animals and plants died,
layers of rock and dirt gradually buried them. Over millions of years,
heat and pressure from Earth’s crust decomposed these organisms
into one of the three main kinds of fuel: oil (also called petroleum),
natural gas, or coal. These fuels are called fossil fuels.
- Most natural resources, including fossil fuels, are not distributed
evenly around the Earth. Deposits of fossil fuels depend on the
climate and organisms that lived in that region millions of years ago,
and the geological processes that have since taken place.
 Operation: Fossil fuels are burned to produce energy. In large
power stations they are burned in the presence of oxygen. As the
fuel burns the heat energy is used to heat water, as it is heated it
produces steam which in turn rises and drives a turbine.
- The energy conversion goes from chemical energy stored in the
fuels, to heat energy as it burns which is converted to kinetic energy
as it drives large turbines and finally this is converted to electrical
energy.
2. How to take advantage of the energy
 Fossil fuels are of the following types: coal, petroleum, natural gas.
 Firstly, coal is a hard, black coloured substance made up of
carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur. To be honest, coal
was initially used to produce steam in railway engines. Furthermore,
It is used to cook food, generate electricity in thermal plants. In
addition, it is used in industries as fuel.
 Petroleum is a clear, oily liquid, usually green or black in color.
First of all, It is used to power internal combustion engines in the
form of petrol. Moreover, it is used in roofing, road pavements and
as a water repellent and manufacturing detergents, plastics, fibers,
polyethene, etc.
 Natural gas is a clean, non-toxic fossil fuel, colorless and odorless
and can be easily transferred through pipelines. I believe that
Natural Gas is used for generating power. Besides that, It is used as
fuel in automobiles and a starting material in chemicals and
fertilizers. Furthermore, It can be used at homes for cooking.

II. The Advantage and Disadvantage of the energy

1. Advantage
 Fossil fuels can generate a large amount of electricity at a single location.
 They can be found very easily.
 They are cost-effective.
 Transportation of oil and gas can be done easily through pipelines.
 They have become safer over time.
 Despite being a finite resource, it is available in plenty.

2. Disadvantage
 Fossil fuels emit carbon dioxide when burnt which is a major greenhouse
gas and the primary source of pollution. This has contributed to global
warming.
 They are a non-renewable resource, i.e., once used they cannot be
replaced.
 Combustion of fossil fuels makes the environment more acidic. This has
led to unpredictable and negative changes in the environment.
 Harvesting of fossil fuels also causes fatal diseases among the people. For
eg., the coal miners often suffer from Black Lung Disease. The natural gas
drillers are constantly exposed to chemicals and silica which is dangerous
for their health.

III. Potential
 The United States Energy Information Administration (EIA)
estimated in 2006 that primary energy sources include 36.8%
petroleum, 26.6% coal (including brown coal and coal), natural gas
22, 9%, accounting for 86% of the primary fuel produced in the
world.
 Fossil fuels are very important because they can be used as fuel to
generate energy. The use of coal as fuel has been going on for a
long time in history
 However, the source of clean raw materials is gradually becoming

popular and widely used by everyone. Fossil fuel consumption is

predicted to decrease in the future.

IV. Conclusion

 Fossil fuels have helped us build our complex industrialized societies.

 We are now approaching a turning point in history: fossil fuel production will

begin to decline.

 We can encourage conservation and alternative energy sources.

 or we can wait until fossil fuels are depleted.

 Renewable energy sources are becoming feasible and economical, and it

becomes easier to envision giving up on our reliance on fossil fuels and charting

a win-win future for humanity and the environment .

1. Is it possible for humans to use tidal wave as a form of energy?

- Yes, it is possible for humans to use tidal wave as a form of energy. Due to gravitational pull of the
Moon (and the Sun), sea level changes during the day and high tides and low tides are formed.
Difference in sea levels between high tides and low tides gives us tidal energy.

2. tell me different methods of collecting wave energy:

- There are four methods of collecting wave energy: point absorber buoys, surface attenuators,
oscillating water columns, and overtopping devices.
3. What kinds of converter devices offer the strongest wave energy?
The kinds of converter devices offer the strongest wave energy are Point absorber buoy,
surface attenuators, oscillating water columns, and overtopping devices.
4. How can we minimize the loss of energy while converting wave energy?
5. How can wave energy current usage depict Earth's ocean state
6. As i can see in nowaday's situation, it usually occurs some accidents on the seas such as: rubbish,
oil ships problems,... So i wonder if it has any bad affects to the wave machine systems like the
pollutants may stuck in them and it will break it maybe..
-Large machines have to be put near and in the water to gather energy from the waves. These
machines disturb the seafloor, change the habitat of near-shore creatures (like crabs and starfish) and
create noise that disturbs the sea life around them. There is also a danger of toxic chemicals that are
used on wave energy platforms spilling and polluting the water near them.
7. Distinguish between tidal energy and wave energy (tổ 3)
Tidal energy uses gravitational pull of Earth, moon and sun to produce energy where as a wave
energy uses kinetic forces of waves to generate electricity. Tides are less noticeable as when
compared to waves and can most commonly be seen on the shorelines affecting the amount of visible
water and sand. Waves on the other hand can be seen on the surface of the ocean rising and falling.
8. Why do people use wave energy instead of we can use water energy? Tổ 5
That’s a good question. As we can know that, water energy is very useful and more comefortable than
wave energy and water energy is not interrupted. But it doesn’t mean every country can use that, so
that’s reason why we need that and this is not danger or impact on the invorment. And this wave
energy is not depent on the weather so we always use this and don’t worry weather.
Vietnam can use this wave energy or not?
If you don’t know, vietnam is one of the country has potential to use this water because vietnam has
coastline length 3000km but devices in vietnam is too stub so we unable to make full use of resources
9. tổ 1 Is wave energy and tidal energy the same? Explain
Same: Is the transport form of sea water and ocean.
Tides are the rise and fall of the ocean caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the
earth while waves are the wind energy moving across the surface of the ocean thereby making waves
much easier to measure as when compared to tides. While tidal power fluctuates daily and wave
power may be a more sustained source of energy, it not widely used as only a small number of test
sites exist globally
