Introduction
No introduction needed for the big beard in the famous red suit!
Santa tends to stress eat every year when the big deadline is looming around the corner.
He likes to keep a secret stash of sweets close by for his No.1 Toymaker, Ralphie the Elf.
When things start feeling a bit much, Santa always brings out a handful of sweets and a
cup of hot cocoa to calm their nerves and put a smile back on their faces.

Pattern Information
This pattern is worked in rounds unless otherwise stated, with the understanding of basic
amigurumi techniques required to read the pattern.
The pattern includes the instructions to make Santa Claus and his sweetie sack. The head,
body and legs are made as one piece with the outfit and accessories fitted on
afterwards.
Please take note of the colour chart below before starting. I use Vinni’s Colours - Nikkim
Cotton Yarn which is in DK weight.

Head
*We are now going to be working in the back loops only for certain stitches to create the
shaping for the beard.
Stuff the head firmly. As Santa’s beard is quite grand, I like to continue with the ‘jersey’
part of the body and then complete the beard afterwards. Leaving the body unstuffed
you can flatten the ‘jersey’ as needed to get into the last few rows of the beard. Some
may prefer to complete the beard first before continuing on the body.
Body – Part 1
Colour change to C (cut yarn A) and work in the front loops only for the first round. You
will continue colour changing between colour C and colour D to create the Christmas
jersey. *Don’t stuff the body yet until you have completed the beard!
Beard
The beard is worked in short rows in the unworked front loops of the head. To start hold
the head upside down and pull up a loop of colour B yarn in the first front loop of round
17 of the head (see image 1).
Row 1: (Ch 5, slst into the next stitch) repeat until you’ve reached the end of the row.
Ch 5 and now turn the head right side up and slst into the first front loop of round 18 of
the head (see image 3). We are now going to continue working in rows turning the head
upside down or right side up as you reach the end of each row.
Row 2 – 8: (Ch 5, slst into the next stitch) repeat until you’ve reached the end of the row.
Ch 5, turn the head and slst into the first front loop of next round.

from the back to the front to start the first round of the legs (see image 3). Stuff the leg

Santa’s Hat
In colour E yarn.
Rd 39 – 40: 60 sc (60)
Rd 41: (9 sc, inc) x 6 (66)
Rd 42 – 46: 66 sc (66)
Slst to first sc in round 46 to close. Cut yarn, fasten off invisibly and weave in ends. Fold
the last 5 rows up to create the hat trim. Make a 2.5 cm pom-pom in white yarn (or you
could crochet a small ball) and attach to the tip of the hat.
The hat is oversized. I like to make 2-fold lines, so it hangs to one side. Pin the folds down
and leave it for a day, it should naturally hold the crease lines you made.

Legs
Rd 10 - 14: 17 sc (17)
*Crochet an additional sc (or as much as needed) to make sure you are on the inner
seam line of the leg. Loosen your tension when you slst the next round.
Attach yarn in the 4th unworked stitch at the back (leave a long starting tail) and repeat
the leg pattern from round 10 for the 2nd leg. Sew the 3 central stitches closed with the
starting tail of the 2nd leg and weave in ends.
Waistband
Attach colour E yarn in the 1st starting chain stitch. Loosen your tension when making the
round of slst.
Rd 1: 50 sc (50)
Rd 2: 50 slst (50)
Straps x 2
The straps may vary in length depending on your yarn and tension. So, to check the chain
length required for your Santa, put his pants on (see * note) and place pins in the front
(about 8-9 stitches apart) and back (about 6-7 stitches apart) where the straps will be
attached. Add or reduce chain stitches as needed and remember to add an additional
chain as you will start in the 2nd chain.
In colour E yarn, ch 39 starting in 2nd chain from hook, 38 slst. Cut yarn.
Attach straps to the back of the pants and weave in ends. Make a French knot to secure
to the front of the pants using a contrasting colour. Alternatively, you can embroider a
few simple lines to secure.
*The pants are a snug fit and you will have to wiggle them on him initially.
