Q-1 The linear magnification produced by a spherical mirror is +3. Analyse this
value and state the (i) type of mirror and (ii) position of the object with respect
to the pole of the mirror. Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image
in this case.

(b)Reddening of sun’s disc in the early morning and late evening

Q-3 What is dispersion? Explain the dispersion of white light by the glass prism.

Q-3 A convex mirror used for rear-view on an automobile has a radius of
curvature of 3.00 m. If a bus is located at 5.00 m from this mirror, find the
position, nature and size of the image.
Q-4 An object, 4.0 cm in size, is placed at 25.0 cm in front of a concave mirror of
focal length 15.0 cm. At what distance from the mirror should a screen be
placed in order to obtain a sharp image? Find the nature and the size of the
image.
Q-5 A concave mirror produces three times magnified (enlarged) real image of
an object placed at 10 cm in front of it. Where is the image located?
Q-6 Make a diagram to show how hypermetropia is corrected. The near point of
a hypermetropic eye is 1 m. What is the power of the lens required to correct
this defect? Assume that the near point of the normal eye is 25 cm.

disappears doe to formation of P. Identify X, Y, and Z & P.

6. A substance `X` used in the kitchen for making tasty crispy pakoras.and is also an
ingredient of antacid. Name the substance `X`.
(i) How does `X` help to make cakes and bread soft and spongy.
(ii) Is the pH value of solution of `X` is lesser than or greater than 7.0?

7. A metal salt MX when exposed to light splits up to form metal M and a gas X2. Metal
M is used in making ornaments whereas gas X2 is used in making bleaching
powder. The salt MX is itself used in black and white photography.

c) Name the metal salt MX.
d) What type of reaction takes place when salt MX is exposed to light? Write the
equation of the reaction.

8. By taking a specific example of metal X and dilute acid Y, write a balanced


chemical equation for the reaction which takes place. Also indicate physical
state of all the reactants and products.
9. State the reason for the following statements:
a) Tap water conducts electricity whereas distilled water does not.

b) Dry hydrogen chloride gas does not turn blue litmus red whereas dilute
hydrochloric acid does.

c) During summer season, a milkman usually adds a very small amount of baking
soda to fresh milk.

d) For dilution of an acid, acid is added to water and not water to acid.

e) Ammonia is a base but it does not contain hydroxyl group

f) Tooth enamel is one of the hardest substances in our body. Explain the changes
in pH of mouth which indicates tooth decay. How does tooth paste help in
preventing it?

g) What is the nature of salt if pH of its aqueous solution is greater than 7? Name
the acid and base that would be used to prepare the following salts:
i) Potassium sulphate, (ii) Ammonium chloride.

10. Equal length of magnesium ribben is taken in two test tubes ‘A’ and ‘B. When
H2SO4 is added to test tube ‘A’ and H2CO3 in the test tube ‘B’ in equal
amounts:
(a) Identify the test tube showing vigorous reaction.
(b) Give reason to support your answer.
(c) Name the gas liberated in both the tubes. How will you prove its
liberation?
(d) Write chemical equations for both reactions.
(e) Out of the two acids taken above
(i) which one will have lower pH value.(ii) lower H+ concentration
respectively.

11. (a) Mention the pH range within which our body works. Explain how antacids
give relief from acidity. Write the name of one such antacid.
(b) Fresh milk has a pH of 6. How does the pH will change as it turns to
curd? Explain your answer.

1. (a) Can we stir silver nitrate solution with a copper spoon? Why or why not?
Support your answer with reason. (b) Why a brown coating is formed on the iron
rod when iron rod is kept dipped in copper sulphate solution for some time? What
change will be observed in the color of the solution?

2. A metal nitrate "A" on heating gives yellowish brown colored metal oxide along with
brown gas "B" and a colorless gas "C". Aqueous solution of "A" on reaction with
potassium iodide forms a yellowish precipitate of compound "D". Identify A, B, C &
D. Also identify the types of both the reaction. Metal present in "A" is used in alloy
which is used for soldering purposes.

3. Write the balanced chemical equations for the following reaction and identify the
type of reaction: (a) Thermite reaction, Iron (Ill) oxide reacts with aluminum and
gives molten iron and aluminum oxide (b) Chlorine gas is passed in an aqueous
potassium iodide solution to form potassium chloride solution and solid iodine.

4. A substance X which is an oxide of a group 2 element is used intensively in the


cement industry. This element is present in bones also. On treatment with water, it
forms a solution which turns red litmus blue. Identify X and also write the chemical
reaction involved.

5. When the powder of a common metal is heated in an open china dish, its color
turns black. However, when hydrogen is passed over the hot black substance so
formed, it regains its original color. Based on the above information, answer the
following questions: (a) what type of chemical reaction takes place in each of the
two given steps? (b) Name the metal initially taken in the powder form. Write
balanced chemical equation for both reactions.

6. A compound ‘A’ is used in the manufacture of cement. When dissolved in water, it


evolves a large amount of heat and forms compound ‘B’. (i) Identify A and B. (ii)
Write chemical equation for the reaction of A with water. (iii) List two types of
reaction in which this reaction may be classified.

7. Give reasons for the following:

(i) Only one half of water molecule is shown in the formula of Plaster of
Paris.
(ii) Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used as an antacid.
(iii) On strong heating, blue coloured copper sulphate crystals turn white.

8.(i) Draw a labeled diagram to show the preparation of hydrogen chloride gas in
laboratory. (ii) Test the gas evolved first with dry and then with wet litmus paper. In
which of the two cases, does the litmus paper show change in color ? (iii) State the
reason of exhibiting acidic character by dry HCl gas / HCl solution.

increasing order of their reactivities.

13. A reddish-brown metal ‘X’, when heated in air, gives a black compound ‘Y’, which
when heated in presence of H₂ gas gives ‘X’ back. ‘X’ is refined by the process of
electrolysis; this refined form of ‘X’ is used in electrical wiring. Identify ‘X’ and ‘Y’. Draw
a well-labeled diagram to represent the process of refining ‘X’.
