Discussion

1. Begin the discussion with an opening paragraph summarizing the purpose


and main approach of the study:

 1 sentence reiterating the purpose of the study.


 1 sentence stating the main approach.
 2-3 sentences summarizing the main findings.
 1 sentence stating the main conclusions.

2. Summarize the main findings in relation to the published literature. Take care
to ensure that:

 The literature is of high quality (top tier journals/English publications).


 The information presented is specific.
 ALL information obtained from outside sources is cited appropriately and
consistently.
 Accurate conclusions are drawn.

3. Discuss the study limitations and areas of future research:

 Aim to address 2 – 4 weaknesses of the study. Such limitations can be


presented in a favorable light if they can be justified or rationalized.
 Exposing the limitations of the study creates potential avenues of future
work. Thus, areas of future research should be highlighted here.

Conclusion:

 The journal may require a separate subheading for this section. Take care
to read the requirements carefully.
 Provide 1 to 2 sentences summarizing the main findings of the study.
 1 sentence describing the main conclusion(s).
 1 sentence describing the potential implications.
 Note: take care not to overstate the findings or draw conclusions that the
data has not shown.
