Subject Science

Unit no 13 Electricity and circuits

Exercise.

Fill in the blank spaces by finding the correct words from the lesson.

1. In 1600, a man named Dr. William Gilbert used the Electricity and term
_electricity for the first time.
2. Electricity and _gravity_____are natural forces and are closely related
to each other.
3. Electrons are smaller and lighter Particles of an atom.

4 Two electrons will _repel___ because they have same or like charges.

5 Electrons and protons attract each other because they contain Unlike
charges.

6.Electricity is a term used to describe the energy produced when electrons

flows.

7.The current is measured using a device called ammeter.

8.Voltage tells us how much energy is provided by a cell or battery.

9 Resistance is measured in units called ohm’s

10 Resistance turns some of the electrical energy into heat.

11.Most metals 15 are considered to be good conductors of electricity.

12. Semiconductors have both conducting and insulating properties.

13 A variable resistor is made of a long coil of nichrome wire.

14 When electric Current flows through wires it produces heat.

15 When we connect various components together with wires, we build an

electric circuit.

16 A conductor path allows the movement of electrical charges.

17 Schematic diagram is a pictorial way to show circuits.

18 Ina Series circuit, flow of current is the same for all the components in the
circuit.
19 Electricity always tries to find the easiest path to the ground.

20 Anyone who is being electrocuted electric shocked becomes a part of the

circuit.

Investigating Space

Short Question

1. What do you know about the origin of the universe?

Ans:-The universe came into being as the results of being explosion,

which occurred about 17 billion years ago.

2.How do stars born and die?

Ans:- Stars are born, grow, old and die. Their birth places are huge clouds of
gas and dust.

3.What are sunspot?

Ans:-The sunspots vary in their sizes from hundreds to thousands of miles

across. The average sunspot is about the size of the entire planet earth.

4.Explain galaxy and it’s types?

Ans:- Galaxies are the huge collection of stars, dust and gas bounded
together by the gravitational force.

Types:-

There are three types of galaxies, Spiral, Elliptical and Irregular. The only
difference between the three is their shape.

5.Write a short note on black hole in the universe?

Ans:- Black Holes in the Space: (A black hole is one of the strangest
objects space. It is an area in space where gravity is so strong that even light
cannot escape from it.

Long Question

Define galaxy and their types?

Ans.Galaxies are the huge collection of stars, dust and gas bounded
together by the gravitational force.

Types:-

There are three types of galaxies, Spiral, Elliptical and Irregular. The only
difference between the three is their shape.

Spiral Galaxies: The most beautiful type of all the galaxies is spiral
galaxies. The long twisting arms are areas where stars are formed.

. Thus, the spirals that we see are the glowing clouds illuminated by large
and hot stars.

These large and bright stars do not live long.

Elliptical Galaxies:

Elliptical galaxies are shaped like ellipses (stretched circles). They are
divided into eight types, from EO to E7 depending on how elliptical they are.
EO type elliptical galaxies are nearly circular In shape and E7 are very
stretched out. Elliptical galaxies are of different sizes and about 60% of all
galaxies are elliptical.

Irregular Galaxies: (Irregular galaxiesDo not have any specific shape. They
are usually smaller in size but full of gas and dust. The large and small clouds
are examples of irregular galaxies. About 20% of all galaxies are irregular in
shape. Our own galaxy which is known as the Milky Way ky lies within a group
of galaxies which we call the local group.
