ARTICLES OF FAITH

ANGELS

Q. Who are angels? What are they made of? Give descriptive
account of Muslim faith in Angels

Ans: Belief in angels is fundamental article of Faith. Angels are

innocent and created from divine light. Angels are obedient creation of
Allah who always glorifies Him. Angels are assigned various duties and
responsibilities. Hazrat Jibraeel, Mikaeel, Israfil and Izraeel are four
prominent angels. Belief in angels is one of cardinal principles and it is
important after Faith in Allah.

Iman-e-Mufassil: “I believe un Allah, His Angels, His Books, His

messenger, the Last Day and in Taqdir, that all good and bad is from
Allah the highest and I believe in Resurrection after Death”. If we deny
any of these we are not proper Muslims.

Angels are creatures of Allah and are obedient towards Him. They are
created from divine light. Some of the angels have two (pairs of) wings,
some three and some four. Allah says “All praise be to Allah, the
Originator of heaven and Earth, the appointer of angels as message
who have 2, 3 or 4 wings” (35:1). They pervade whole universe. They
are neither male or female; nor husbands, nor wives, nor sons. They
have no material bodies and desires like humans but can assume any
form they like. They are innocent and do not commit any sin. They
never disobey Allah’s command.

They are not daughters of Allah. Angels have no knowledge except

what Allah had given them. They do not speak without permission of
Allah and always act according to command. They never get tired and
never fails to do their task what Allah had given them Allah says “They
fear their sustainer about them and do what they are commanded for”
(16:50).

Angels are divine agencies through which Allah ensures perfect

functioning of Universe. The most significant duty of angels was to
bring Allah’s message to Prophets. Angels worship Allah and send
Durood upon Prophet (S.A.W). They console and give glad tidings to
righteous people. They appeared in Human form for Hazrat Ibrahim to
give him good news of birth of son and they came to Hazrat Lut to warn
him of impending doom of his wicked people. Angels also came in
Battle of Badr to gain victory and help Muslims. “And surely,
guardians have been appointed over you. The honoured recorders,
who know what you” (82:10-13).

Allah have appointed angels for every certain task. 4 most prominent
angels are Hazrat Jibraeel who is responsible to bring Allah’s message
to Prophets, Hazrat Mikaeel who is responsible for rain and wind,
Hazrat Izaraeel who is called angel of death and Hazrat israfeel who
will blow trumpet on Last Day. Other angels are kiraman katabin who
write our deeds and Munkir nakir angels who ask questions in grave.

Belief in angels inspires believers to obey Allah and spend worldly

life on his commands. It keeps altered Muslims from committing any
evil deed as Kiraman Katabin records all actions. It also urges believers
to praise Allah and send Durood upon Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
