Student Guide: School Campaign for Positive Change

Welcome!

Over the next week, you will be working on a school campaign to inspire positive change within
our community. Together, we will explore different ways you can make a real difference, using
creativity, collaboration, and the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) planning stages to guide
you. This is a tentative plan, and it will evolve based on your progress throughout the week. You
will learn how to research issues, plan effective actions, create meaningful campaigns, and
present your work. The campaign you create will be shared as a model for others to start their
own campaigns.

Day 1: Investigation and Research

Block 1: Understanding the Campaign

● We will start by discussing the purpose of this campaign and brainstorming potential
areas where positive change is needed. What are some issues in our school or
community that you care about?

Block 2: Physical Education (PE)

● It’s important to stay active and healthy! You will attend a PE session in this block to stay
energized and focused.

Block 3: Researching Change

● After PE, we will head to the library to explore how individuals can make a difference in
their communities. We will look at successful campaigns and learn about individuals'
impact on different causes. The product of this research will be a minimum one-page
outline of the key factors necessary for a successful strategy.

Block 4: Issue-Specific Research

● You will choose a specific community issue to focus on and begin researching it
in-depth. This will involve gathering data, talking to teachers or peers, and reviewing
different resources to fully understand the issue. You should have at least three
reputable sources to support your research.

Day 2: Planning the Campaign

Block 1: Setting Goals

● Today, we will start by refining our understanding of the issue and setting specific,
measurable goals for the campaign. What do we want to achieve? How can we measure
success? Additionally, your group will begin creating a 'Dedicated Voices' manual where
you outline the process that students need to take to make a change in their community.

Blocks 2 and 3: Campaign Plan

● Next, you will develop a detailed campaign plan. You will outline key actions and identify
your target audience. This is an important step that will create specific actions that you
can take to have the impact that you would like to have related to your issue.

Block 4: Art Class - Creating a Graphic

● In this block, you will attend art class to work on creating a graphic that draws attention
to the issue you are focusing on. This graphic will be an important part of your campaign,
helping to spread your message effectively.

Mid-Day Deliverable: By the end of today, you will submit a draft campaign plan, including the
identified issue, goals, target audience, and key actions, to ensure you are on track.

Day 3: Taking Action

Block 1: Creating Campaign Materials

● It’s time to take action! In this block, you will start creating campaign materials, such as
posters, videos, or social media posts. These materials will help you communicate your
message to others.

Block 2: Refining Campaign Materials

● Continue working on your campaign materials, focusing on making them engaging and
effective. Make sure they clearly convey your message and are visually appealing.

Block 3: Physical Education (PE)

● You will attend another PE session during this block to help maintain your energy and
focus for the rest of the day.

Block 4: Testing and Feedback

● After PE, you will test your campaign messaging by sharing it with a small group of peers
and gathering their feedback. Use this feedback to make any adjustments to your
campaign.

Mid-Day Deliverable: By the end of today, you will submit your draft campaign materials for
review, including posters, videos, or social media content, to ensure quality and alignment with
your campaign goals.
Day 4: Presentation and Reflection

Block 1: Art Class - Continuing Graphic Design

In this block, you will attend art class to work on creating a graphic that draws attention to the
issue you are focusing on. This graphic will be an important part of your campaign, helping to
spread your message effectively.

Block 2: Finalising the Campaign

● Today, you will attend an additional art block to refine your visuals for the campaign. This
is followed by finalising your campaign materials and rehearsing your presentation. This
is your chance to make sure everything is ready for your big presentation!

Block 3: Presenting the Campaign

● In this block, you will present your campaign to the class or a group of teachers. After
your presentation, you will reflect on the process. What worked well? What challenges
did you face? How could you apply these lessons to future projects?

Block 4: Reflection and Celebration

● To end the day on Friday, we will have a reflection activity where we will take time to
think about what we have accomplished, the impact of our campaigns, and what we
have learned throughout the process. This will be followed by a time to celebrate our
hard work and achievements together as a group.

We look forward to seeing the amazing campaigns you create! This is your opportunity to
inspire positive change in our community and make your voice heard. Work hard, be creative,
and remember that every action counts!
