Automatic indentation detection program
VLPAK2000
Individual differences in hardness measurement are reduced.
Only 0.3 seconds for detecting... dramatically improving the work efficiency.

For hardness measurement, the diagonal length of an

indentation must be measured on the TV monitor, and
individual differences in measurement and labor saving are
major issues.
The automatic program VLPAK2000 automatically detects
the diagonal length of an indentation and converts the
result to a hardness value, reducing measurement errors
due to individual differences. In addition, it can detect
hardness at high speed in only 0.3 seconds, dramatically
improving the work efficiency of hardness testing.

Introduction of microhardness testing machines and
labor saving automatic machines

Microhardness testing machines : HM Series

There is increasing need for labor saving, unattended, high-
speed, and high-precision hardness measurement.
We introduce automatic machines that can meet any needs.
If you have problems such as “elimination of individual
differences in measurement” or ”shortening of measurement
time“, contact Mitutoyo for details.

Various types of specimen tables are provided for your specimens (shape, dimensions, application). Use the following
for measurement of samples such as thin items.

Specimen fixture

810-020
Adjustable specimen table (Thickness
of 30mm or less)
It makes the sample surface and center of the
indenter axis diagonal when parallelism of the
810-013 sample is poor.
It cannot be used for the automatic hardness testing systems.
Sheet installation table
It prevents variations of hardness due to flexure
and wrinkle upon measurement of sheet of 810-018
0.5mm or less. (Example: Metal sheets, etc.) Rotation table (Minimum graduation 1°)
The specimen fixed on the table can be measured
810-015 by rotating it.
Thin item installation table
(vertical type) 810-017
It fixes the specimen upon measurement of a thin item of 0.4 to Special type vise
3mm or less (end face). (Example: Wire, copper line, etc.) (Open width: 100mm)
It can fix specimens of up to 100mm.
810-014
Thin item installation table 810-012
(horizontal type) Fine adjustment table
It fixes the specimen upon measurement of a thin (X·Y 50mm Stroke)
item of 0.4 to 3mm or less (side face). (Example: It can move the sample up to 50mm in the X- and Y-directions.
Wire, piano wire, etc.)
810-085
810-019
Sheet specimen table
Specimen tilt table
20. It levels the sample measurement
face and indenter to prevent variations of
indentation shape, with the opening width of 37mm, tilt angle of
±150º, and rotation angle of ±25º.

Display screen for easy operation

All operations such as measurement position adjustment and focusing required during
a test can be performed on a PC. During a test, the graph of indentation depth vs. test
force is displayed in real time so that you can grasp the test state at a glance.

Data analysis function 1

Test results are saved in text format files that can be called from spreadsheet software
Excel. A macro that can call test results from Excel is available.

Data analysis function 2

Statistical calculation and graph display can be easily performed for the test results loaded
to Excel. You can make the test results visual by using the graph overlay function.

Measurement principle
The test force load mechanism applies an electromagnetic test force to the measurement sample via the non-friction balance lever and indenter.
The point of contact of the indenter and specimen is regarded as the zero test force of the test force load, and a force is applied up to the
specified test force. In the process in which the indenter is pressed

into the specimen, the indentation depth is measured with the Indenter
displacement gage (electrostatic capacity method). By analyzing the Indentation h

The separate operation panel allows the user to perform operation of the hardness testing machine in a comfortable position.

• Adoption of the power turret allows automatic switching of

the indenter and objective lens from the operation panel.
• The operation panel is separated from the main unit for
810-163: HV-112 improved operability.
810-165: HV-114 • Major basic operations can be performed with the easy-to-
use touch panel with rich functionality.
• Adoption of the length measuring calibrator allows the 2
objective lenses to be used for measurement.
• Statistical calculation of measurement results, often required
in a hardness test, can be performed easily.
• OK/NG judgment is displayed after measurement by setting the
upper and lower limit values before measurement. This is useful
for sorting of products by hardness value.
• Fracture toughness testing of ceramics materials can be
810-981: HV-113 performed according to the IF method of the JIS standard.
810-985: HV-115 • Indentations and organizations magnified on the TV monitor
can be observed by both eyes, which reduces measurement
errors and improves work efficiency.

High temperature Vickers hardness testing system
AVK-HF
It measures Vickers hardness from room temperature to high temperature.
It is suitable for analysis of mechanical characteristics of new materials such as heat resistant materials and ceramics.

• High-temperature furnace: The high-temperature furnace is an airtight cabin that has a

rotation mechanism with the indenter axis unit and sample observation, sample heating unit,
and movement mechanism for the sample heating unit.
• Heating atmosphere: After a vacuum is produced in the high-temperature furnace, heating
and hardness measurement of the sample are performed in an inert gas atmosphere.
• Load method: The indenter axis unit of the high-temperature furnace is an indenter guiding
mechanism that moves up and down the indenter in the furnace while air tightness is
maintained. The mechanism enables the test force to be applied to the sample in the furnace
from the outside. Application of the test force from the outside and control of the test force
are performed by using the Vickers hardness testing machine.
• Conversion between test force load and sample observation: Unload operation is performed
by adjusting the test force mechanism attached to the upper turntable of the high-temperature
furnace to the sample position, and then the observation window is rotated to the sample
position to perform measurement of the impression and observation of the sample.
• It can be used as an elongated Vickers hardness testing machine when the high-temperature
furnace is removed.

Features of the Rockwell hardness testing machine 600 Series

• The standard OK/NG judgment function (OK/NG) greatly speeds up the selection and sorting of specimens based on hardness values.
• Setting of various parameters such as upper and lower limit values of hardness required for the OK/NG judgment function can be
performed easily by using the new scroll selector.
• Hardness values are displayed on the large digital display, which significantly reduces incorrect operation due to misunderstanding.
• The loading navigator that indicates the preliminary test force and test force load states with blinking lamps is provided as standard
for increased operability.
Rockwell hardness
testing machine • The measured hardness value is kept on the display by the display value hold function until measurement is performed again. This
reduces wasteful re-measurement operation due to not detecting the value.
