The Bermuda

Triangle
What is The
Bermuda
Triangle?
• The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a
loosely defined region between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto
Rico in the North Atlantic Ocean. Since the mid-20th century, the
area has been the subject of an urban legend, which claims that
many aircraft and ships have disappeared there under mysterious
circumstances.

Scientific Explainations of
Bermuda Triangle
Scientific Explanations

• Magnetic Compass

• The Earth’s magnetic North Pole isn't

the same as its geographic North Pole
, which means that compasses
usually don’t point exactly north.
Only along agonic lines, which line up
magnetic and geographic north, are
compasses truly accurate.
• The mariners, usually accustomed to
accounting for a discrepancy in their
compass readings, may make
mistakes when very near to the agonic
line that lead them astray. Paired with
the often shallow waters of the island-
strewn Caribbean Sea, navigational
errors could lead to boats running
aground on hidden shoals.
Unpredictable Weather

• Frequent tropical storms and hurricanes.

• The presence of the Gulf Stream, which
causes sharp changes in local weather.
• Unpredictable and rapidly changing weather
patterns, including sudden storms,
waterspouts, and fog.
• Misty, cloudy, and dull conditions during
summer, with occasional changes.
• Heavy rainfall and super-strong winds
associated with tropical storms and
hurricanes.
Undersea Methane Deposits

• An explanation for some of the disappearances

has focused on the presence of large fields
of methane hydrates (a form of natural gas) on
the continental shelves. Laboratory
experiments carried out in Australia have proven
that bubbles can, indeed, sink a scale model
ship by decreasing the density of the water.

• Methane can cut out an aircraft engine,

leading to crashes.
