9. What does Lennox think about Macbeth, Fleance, and Duncan's sons?
Lennox thinks Macbeth is the “Good Guy”, Fleance is responsible for Banquo’s death
and Duncan’s sons are responsible for his murder. Sarcastically, he seems to be saying
the complete opposite of what he said, because it sounds ridiculous to him that
Duncan’s sons would murder their father , Fleance had no obvious motives to kill
Banquo, and Macbeth has made Scotland a mess.
Act IV
1. Witch 2 says, "By the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes." Who
comes?
Macbeth is the one who comes after the which says this.
2. What is Macbeth's attitude towards the witches this time?
Macbeth’s attitude towards the witches become arrogant and demanding as he tries to
take control over them due to his new title as King.
3. What four things did the witches show Macbeth? What does each show/say? What is
Macbeth's reaction?
The withes show Macbeth an armed head, a bloody child, a crowned child with a tree in
its hand and eight kings followed by Banquo’s ghost. The first vison represented beware
of Macduff, the second vision represented that he would not be warned by anyone
“born” of a women, the third vision represented that he would not be vanquished until
Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane, and lastly Banquo’s descendants would be kings.
4. Macbeth says (about the witches), "Infected be the air whereon they ride, and
damned all those that trust them!" What is Macbeth, in effect, saying about himself?
Macbeth is saying that he himself is damned.

Macduff is in England helping Malcom.

Macbeth has Macduff’s family and servants killed because he is aware that Macduff is
not loyal to him , and the betrayal makes him upset.

Lady Macduff’s son implies that since there are more of liars and swearers than honest
individuals , they should all come to an agreement to hang those honest individuals. He
expresses that they are fools to leave themselves in jeopardy when they could
overthrow the honest people.

would wear the brows of grace, Yet grace must still look so." What does that mean?
He is referring to the devil once being one of the brightest angels at a point in time. The
meaning of this statement is to emphasize that all things are not what they seem to be.
9. Macduff says, "Oh, Scotland, Scotland!" Why?
Malcom had just told him how horrid of a king he would be if he had been king instead
of Macbeth , given the option to choose between Malcom and Macbeth he fears for his
country.

Ross brings Macduff the news of his family being executed along with his servants.
Act V
1. What do the doctor and gentlewoman see Lady Macbeth doing? What do they decide
to do about it?
The doctor and the gentlewoman witnesses Lady Macbeth sleepwalking and talking
about the murders of Duncan and the others. The doctor decides that it is best that he
pretends not know and refuses to mention it , he suggests that the gentlewoman keep
an eye on her as he leaves.
2. What does Macbeth want the doctor to do for his wife?
Macbeth wants the doctor to ease her suffering and guilt, and to prescribe her
something to make her oblivious to her troubles.
3. What trick does Malcolm use to hide the number of men in his army?
He has his men cut off branches from trees and use them as camouflage to hide the
number of men in his army.
