Welcome to Colwyn
Bowmen Archery Club
and your Introduction

to Archery Course
Colwyn Bowmen
The club was established in the 1950’s and has continued to offer a
valuable archery resource in North Wales to date.
The club has used a number of sites and ranges, both indoor and
outdoor, in and around the Colwyn Bay area over the years and is
focused on being a target archery club.
Currently based at Rydal Penrhos School in the Sports Hall on
Combermere Road, we welcome Recurve, Compound, Longbow
& Flat-bow archers. Please note, however that crossbows are not
permitted.
We are committed to being a welcoming, all-inclusive club offering
archery facilities to all those interested and of any ability or disability
All club members are expected to abide by the Archery GB (Grand
National Archery Society/ GNAS) rules of shooting and their code of
etiquette.

-=SAFETY RULES=-
🎯N ever point a drawn bow at anyone, even in fun.
🎯 A bow shall Never be drawn, with or without an arrow, in any direction other
than towards the target.
🎯 A bow shall only be drawn with the arrow parallel to the ground or pointing
towards the ground.
🎯 Nbelly of “dry
ever fire” a bow without an arrow in place or overdraw an arrow into the
the bow. This will damage the bow, the arrow and most probably the
archer too.
🎯 Nshotperson
o will move forward from the shooting line until all arrows have been
and only at the signal from the field captain.
🎯 When approaching the boss, do so on the left-hand side, Walk - keeping a
watch out for arrows that may have fallen short of the target and also for those
arrows sticking out from the target. All arrows are potentially dangerous wherever
they are in the range!
🎯 When drawing arrows out of the boss, always Check Behind You for other
people. An arrow nock to the eye is dangerous & could cause serious injury!
🎯 If, when shooting, the words “FAST!” or “STAND DOWN!” are heard you
must stop shooting immediately, lower the bow and take the arrow off the string.
The Field Captain will indicate when it is safe to resume.
🎯 Rand used with, a care
emember bow is a potentially lethal weapon and as such should be handled
and respect at all times.

1. Jewelry & piercings should be removed

to prevent snagging on the bowstring,
2. Long hair should be tied back,
3. Toggles and pockets can also get
snagged by the bowstring,
4. Avoid loose fitting clothing,
5. No “open toed” footware,
6. A “Chest Guard” may be needed
to prevent the string hitting you or
