4. OVERCURRENT SETTING CALCULATION

The formula to calculate trip time is , t = TMS x 0.14/(Ir^0.02-1)

where t = time to trip
TMS time multiplier setting
Ir = max fault current
primary setting current

The setting are calculated from location A (TNB PPU Naka ) with the TMS selected as 0.18 which is standard
for TNB. Based on the load current of 300A

The nearest available setting is 300 A. (50 % of 600/300/5 CT)

primary setting current = 300 A
TMS selected at TNB = 0.18

The trip time at is calculated as:

tE = 0.18 x 0.14
((2230/300)^0.02-1)

tE = 0.62

Relay downstream from E are graded with suitable trip time diffrentiation and ther TMS calculated by adjusting the formula. The
trip time at B should be faster than A. The trip time at C,D & E are progressively slower than B.

The formula to calculate trip time is , t = TMS x 0.14/(Ir^0.02-1)

Calculation Of Losses in the System

a) Power loss at Fiah 11kV and switchgears and PPPU NAKA= negligible

b) Power loss for 11kV cable (1C 500mm AL/XLPE/SCT/PE/PE Cable)

Manufacturer data = 0.0804 ohm/km
2 cables per phase and 30m length :
= 0.0402 x 0.03 = 0.001206
cable resistance
Power loss = 3i^2R = 3x(iD)^2x0.001206
= 1672.87 W
= 1.67 kW
c) Power Loss in step up transformer = Tx No Load Loss (refer to manufacturer)
= 8 kW

d)POwer loss in 33kV 185 sqmm AL/ XLPE/SCT/PVC/AWA/PVC Cable

Manufacturer data = 0.211 ohm/km
150m length : cable resistance = 0.211 x 0.15 = 0.03165

Power loss = 3i^2R = 3x(iB)^2xcable resistence

= 4185.37 W
= 4.19 kW

e)Power loss in 33kV 150mm AL/XLPE/SCT/PVC/ABC

Manufacturer data = 0.206 ohm/km
1.3km length : cable resistance = 0.206 x 1.3 = 0.2678
Power loss = 3i^2R = 35413.6478 w
= 35.4 kW

Total power loss = 1.67 + 8 + 4.2 + 35.4

= 49.27 kW

For RPR setting we request to follow as per in PSS report.

Hence the power loss for RPR setting = 55.29 kW

= 69.1 kVA

The MV and LV currents are calculated from the above loss using , I = (kVA x 1000)/ (√3xV)
The primary current at 109.4kVA , 33000V = 1.21 A
The relay is set to nearest higher setting i.e 1% of 300/5 CT ratio = 1.21 A

Primary kVA = (√3x I x V)/1000 = (1.732 x 1.21 x 33000) = 69

where t = time to trip

Ir = max fault current
primary setting current

The setting are calculated from location E (TNB PPU Naka ) with the TMS selected as 0.25 which is
standard for TNB. Based on the load current of 218.7A we add 10% to allow for transient peaks.

217.6 x 1.1 = 239.37 Amp

The nearest available setting is 245 A. (81.67 % of 600/300/5 CT)

The trip time at is calculated as:
