Sungold Barefoot Sandals

By Elizabeth Gormley
Materials:
Crochet Hook USA 5

2 Skeins Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Thread Size 10

Color: Goldenrod
(or split 1 skein into 2. I use a cardboard tube to
do this.)

Sandals with Bead Materials

Two beads (optional) about 6/8 inches in

diameter - the bead used here is a bracelet bead
which is drilled twice to keep the bead from
turning.

Beading needle that will fit through bead Sandals without bead center

Matching thread or nylon beading thread

Cluster Stitch Notes:

SCL: (Small Cluster): (yo, insert hook in chain

space, yo, draw through, yo, draw through 2
loops) three times, yo, draw through 4 loops

LBCL: (Large Beginning Cluster): Chain 2,

(yo, insert hook in chain space, yo, draw
through, yo, draw through 2 loops) three times,
yo, draw through 4 loops

LCL: (Large Cluster): (yo, insert hook in

chain space, yo, draw through, yo, draw through
2 loops) four times, yo, draw through 5 loops

Using a Double Thread

In this pattern you will be using a double

thread. This means you will use two threads
as if it were only one. The photo above
and the close up on the left show you what
that looks like with contrasting colors so
Close Up
that you can see it clearly.

Instructions:
Beginning Ring:

Using 2 strands (use 2 strands through the whole pattern) make a Magic Circle (If you don’t know
what this is you can search for a tutorial on the Internet or simply chain 3, slip stitch into the first
chain to form a ring).

Round 1: Chain 1, 8sc in ring, join in beginning sc

Round 2 (right side): 2ch, (yo, insert hook in same sc where you made the join, yo, draw through,
yo, draw through 2 loops) twice, yo, draw through 3 loops, 5ch. In next sc: (yo, insert hook in
sc, yo, draw through, yo, draw through 2 loops) three times, yo, draw through 4 loops, 1ch, turn

[In this next round adjust the number of chains (underlined) so that the bead you have chosen fits
snugly in the center. You may have to redo this round until you get the right number of chains.]

Round 3: Slip Stitch in 5 chain space, LBCL, 7ch, LCL, 1ch, turn

Round 4: (all stitches in same chain space) Slip stitch in 5 chain space, LBCL, 5ch, SCL, 2ch, slip
stitch , LBCL, 5ch, LCL 1ch , turn, DO NOT FINISH OFF.

You are now going to work the left side of the sandal:

Left Side of Sandal:

Round 5: Slip stitch in 5ch space, LBCL, 5ch, LCL, 1ch, turn
Rounds 6 - 7 : Same as Round 5
Round 8: Slip stitch in 5ch space, LBCL, 3ch, LCL, 1ch, turn
Round 9: (Slip stitch, 1ch, sc, slip stitch) in 3ch space, turn

Tie:
Round 10: Slip stitch in sc, chain until the tie measures 3 ft (or as long as you wish it to be).

Finish off.

Right Side of Sandal:

With the wrong side of the sandal facing, join in 5ch space. Repeat round 5 - 10 as you did for the
left side.

Toe Loop (Right side facing): Join at lower end of Round 1 with a slip stitch. Chain 20 (or
comfortable number of chains for your toe). Slip stitch into next sc in ring. Finish off.

Make a second sandal same as the first. Sew on beads.
