Concept Notes:

MIND MAPPING
• Is a powerful thinking tool.
• A graphical technique that mirrors the way the brain works, and was invented by Tony
Buzan.
• Helps to make thinking visible. Most people make notes using lined paper and blue or
black ink. Making notes more attractive to the brain by adding color and rhythm can aid
the learning process, and can help to make learning fun.
Mind Maps have variety of uses like:
1. Note taking 3. Revision planning
2. Planning for writing 4. Problem solving
How to draw a mind map:
1. Turn the page on its side (landscape). Use plain paper.
2. Draw the central image using different colors. The central image should
encapsulate the subject of the map.
3. Add the branches representing the subject’s main topics or themes using key
words or images.
4. Add detail with more key words and images. Use color.
5. Print the words clearly.
6. Use arrows to connect linked ideas.

Left and Right Brain Work Simultaneously in Mind-Mapping

Creating the mind map involves the use of the left and right brain, remembering the
information becomes easier. Right side of the brain is responsible for creativity, emotions
and intuition, while the left side is responsible for logic, critical thinking, analytical
skills, reasoning, and language.

Below is an example of a simple mind map linked from the information

above

games) or any idea that you preferred to make a personal plan or to solve a
current problem you encountered.

2. Make a mind map of your chosen topic, following the procedures described
above. Use brain functions both the left and right side to the full potential.
Take your time when doing this.

Concept Notes:
Personal development plan
 is a process that consists of defining what is important to you, what you want
to achieve, what strengths you already have that help to achieve your goals,
and what you need to improve and develop with time.

Some benefits of having a personal development plan:

1. Guideline for life

If you ever find yourself feeling lost in life, you can just look into your
plan and remind yourself where you want to go.
2. Decreases the risk of things going wrong with your journey.
3. It increases possibilities that your life will go in the right direction.

By “developing” your future, you will get a better sense of control over your life and
you will make better decisions on the way.

Activity 26: Developing My Personal Plan

Instruction:
• In this output, you are tasked to make your own simplified “Personal Plan”
for one week to enhance your brain functions.
• You may include a variety of exercises and diet programs that you think will
further develop your brain functions.
• This intended “Personal Plan,” must follow the “SMART” protocol in which
every intended activity you make must be simple, measurable, attainable,
realistic (practical), and time-bound.  Consider the example given.
Day to fulfill Exercises/Diet Programs /Activities that will further
enhance your brain functions
Ex. Monday Read quote and use it on that day

Concept Notes:

“Emotional Intelligence (EI)”- is the ability to understand, use, and manage our
emotions.

It is sometimes called EQ (or EI) for short. EQ stands for emotional quotient.
Just as a high IQ, can predict top test scores, a high EQ can predict success in
social and emotional situations. EQ helps us build strong relationships, make good
decisions, and deal with difficult situations.

One way to think about EQ is that it's part of being people-smart. Understanding
and getting along with people helps us be successful in almost any area of life. In
fact, some studies show that EQ is more important than IQ when it comes to doing
well in school or being successful at work.

As we know, it is not always the smartest people who are the most successful
or the most fulfilled in life. You probably know some of your classmates or friends
who are academically competent and yet are socially incompetent and unsuccessful
at work or in their personal relationships. So, we can conclude that intelligent
quotient (IQ) in itself is not enough to achieve success in life. True enough, your IQ
can help you get good grades or help you achieve your college dream.
Nevertheless, your EQ will help you manage the stress and emotions when facing
examinations. Both IQ and EQ need to work together. It is proven to be most
effective when a person has both.

Concept Notes:

Improving Your EQ
Emotional intelligence is a combination of several different skills:

1.Being Aware of Your Emotions

Practice recognizing emotions as you feel them like surprise, happiness,
anger or sadness etc. can helps us manage our emotions every day. It also helps us
understand how other people feel. It is the most basic of all EQ skills.

2. Understanding How Others Feel and Why

Part of EQ is being able to imagine how other people might feel in certain
situations and we call it as empathy. It is also about understanding why they feel
the way they do. Empathy helps us care about others and build good friendships
and relationships. It guides us on what to say and how to behave around someone
who is feeling strong emotions.

3.Managing Emotional Reactions

We all get angry. We all have disappointments. Often, it's important to express how
you feel but managing your reaction means knowing when, where, and how
to express yourself. When you understand your emotions and know how to
manage them, you can use self-control to hold a reaction if now is not the
right time or place to express it. Someone who has good EQ knows it can
damage relationships to react to emotions in a way that's disrespectful, too intense,
too impulsive, or harmful.

4.Choosing Your Mood

Moods are emotional states that last a bit. We have the power to decide what mood
is right for a situation, and then to get into that mood. Choosing the right mood can
help someone get motivated, concentrate on a task, or try again instead of giving
up. People with good EQ know that moods aren't just things that happen to us. We
can control them by knowing which mood is best for a particular situation and how
to get into that mood.

EQ: Under Construction

EI is something that develops as we get older. EQ skill of managing emotional
reactions and choosing a mood might seem harder to master since the part of the
brain that’s responsible for self-management continues to mature beyond teen
years. Through constant practice helps those brain pathways develop.
