is the number of festivals we enjoy. Write an article in 150-200 words on
‘Festivals of India’. You are Karuna/Karan.
Answer:

FESTIVALS OF INDIA
– Karan/ Karuna

It is said that “Greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals”. India has
proved every word of the saying right by being famously known as the “Land of
Festivals” .

True to this belief, India has scores and scores of festivals that bring happiness
and joy all across the country.

This is because of the diverse cultures that exist in this subcontinent. All these
different cultures and religions get tied together in bonds of love with these
invisible threads of celebrations.

Every festival has a social, religious and mythological value. Accordingly,

Dussehra has a great significance. Similarly, the Janmashtami festival has also a
great religious and social significance. This is the occasion when Lord Krishna
was born to kill Kansa and other demons and save the people from a great
danger. This festival also teaches us how to fight evil and falsehood and
establish truth.

On these festivals, people offer prayers to their deities, wear ethnic clothes and
make merry with their near and dear ones. Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid Ul Fitr,
Baisakhi, Onam, Pongal, Gurupurab, Ram Navami and Durga Puja are some of
the festivals that are celebrated with immense zeal in different parts of India
with some of these being specific to a particular region.
No wonder, our country is called a land of festivals.
Thank you.

Nita School, Gurgaon
3rd Aug. 20xx, Gurgaon. Our school organised an exhibition-cum-sale of items
prepared under Work Experience by our students on the 31st of July in the
school lawns. It was heartening to see the overwhelming response our
endeavour got from not only the parents but also from the general public who
showed a lot of interest in the items made by the students. A wide array of items
such as candles, greeting cards, jewellery boxes, wooden handicrafts had been
prepared by talented students.

The students were really encouraged by the positive feedback they got from
everyone present. Our principal too was personally present there all the time
interacting with everyone. He appreciated the students’ hard work and creativity
and announced that the money collected from the sale of items would be
donated to an old-age home in the vicinity of our school. Our principal also
decided that such initiatives would be taken up by our school more frequently to
motivate the creative students and to help a noble cause.

SAMPLE QUESTION

The chart shows the division of household tasks by gender in Great Britain.
Write an analytical paragraph describing the chart given in not more than
200 words.
Answer :

The chart shows the number of minutes per day spent by British men and
women in doing household tasks. On an average, the women spend about four
hours doing household tasks whereas the men spend less than two and half
hours.
The tasks on which women spend more time than men include cooking,
cleaning house, taking care of the children and laundry. In doing all these tasks,
women spend approximately 200 minutes which is almost three times the time
spent by men in these tasks. On the other hand, men spend twice the time than
women in doing tasks like gardening and maintenance of odd jobs in the house.
Men spend the highest time, almost 50 minutes, in gardening and petcare. While
the women spend only 30 minutes for these tasks. The time spent by men in
washing, ironing and sewing clothes is as low as 2 minutes per day as opposed
to 25 minutes spent by women.
In short, women spend far more time doing household chores than men whilst
men prefer to do gardening, pet care and maintaining odd jobs.
