THOUSANDS
Yetkur Anbesa Medical Center administered free measles vaccinations to 5,023 people today,
with another session planned for next Monday in Addis Ababa.
The four-hour immunization program, which ran from 8:00 a.m. to noon, primarily served
children under 12, though college-age students made up one-third of recipients.
The initiative comes as Addis Ababa University requires incoming freshmen to show proof of
measles immunization before registration.
"We've pretty much got measles under control, but we still have to be sure everyone has been
immunized," said Dr. Alemu, director of Yetkur Anbesa Medical Center.
The medical center funded the program internally, demonstrating its commitment to public
health after five measles cases were reported in the city last year.
"We feel it's important that we do our part to keep Addis a healthy place to live and work," Dr.
Alemu added.
The next free vaccination session will begin at 8:00 a.m. next Monday at the same location.
