H e l l o de a r
reader!

What are your plans this summer? Do you want to

join a group of international volunteers and spend
the season organizing free camps for kids? Come to
Transylavnia and volunteer with us!

The Youth Association from Transylvania

We are the Youth Association from Transylvania, but you can
call us ATA. Years ago, we set a goal. A goal to show Europe
to Transylvania, and to show Transylvania to Europe. We like
to work with people, especially people from all around the
world. Our hobbies are learning about new cultures and
organizing amazing events for our local community and guests
from all around! Until now, we organized youth exchanges,
seminars, and training courses on many various topics, from
how to be a good citizen to bullying. We hosted volunteers
whose main tasks included herbalism, activities with young
children in kindergarten, showing their culture to the locals,
and many-many more!
Who will you work
with?

There are currently 7 people

working in the office of the
association, but of course
many people help our job from
the part of the community.

And we are natalija and

máté, we will be your
coordinator, if you decide
to volunteer here.
ESC?
The European Solidarity Corps is a program that aims to
provide opportunities to all people, between the age of 18
and 30. ESC helps local communities and allows young
people to work and volunteer on European projects. It
enables organizations to meet and work with motivated
individuals with great ideas and ambitious goals. For both
organizations and young people, ESC provides several
opportunities, for example, individual and group
volunteering, internships, and local projects.

You will be team volunteering ... but what is that?

Volunteering teams are solidarity activities

that allow teams of participants coming from
at least two different countries to volunteer
together for a period between 2 weeks and 2
months. this does NOT prevent you from
participating in future esc projects at all!
You can still volunteer individually or in teams
after this adventure.
For 59 days
In this part we will describe how you can spend your
summer here!

For two months, a total of 59 days, you will help organize

camps for children in a group of 12 international
volunteers. But the most fun part? Each of these camps
will be organized in a different village of Transylavnia!
Throughout the 8 weeks you can get to know 6 towns of
this region! But let’s see the plan week by week, shall
we?

You arrive to Cristuru Secuiesc

between the 10th and 12th of July

The first week is the week of arrival and getting to

know each other. There are 3 days for all the 12
volunteers to arrive to our small town. You will be
accommodated in two different places. Here you
will have the opportunity to get to know us, each
other, our association, the neighborhood, and our
individual ESC volunteers.
In the second week, we will teach you many things
and prepare you for organizing the camps, through a
course held by us. We will talk about non-formal
education, event organization, video production, and
communication. Do you already have experience in
the above? Super! Then you just have to learn
Hungarian!

In the third week you can finally implement what you have
learnt, as the first camp takes place in Cristuru Secuiesc.
Here 20 kids will take part in an intercultural camp organized
by you!
We will organize the detailed program of the camp together,
at the end of the prep training. What is sure however is that
we will spend a lot of time in nature, as the camp is located
next to a forest, you can deal with medicinal plants, teach
English, and plan a million interesting and fun programs.

We are part of a small community and we are

proud to be in it! A charming little village,
Betfalva, is located 3 kilometers from us, where
we will organize a cool day camp for kids, who do
not have the opportunity to participate in other,
paid camps. You could take part in organizing a
lifetime experience for these kids on week 4!
In the seventh week, we will return to our base and
from there we will commute to a village located 8
kilometers away, where we will teach awareness to the
children there. How? We collect as many practices as
possible, transform them into games and give
everything to the children there! What do we mean?
For example, should the little ones collect rainwater
to water their own small plants, or should we teach
them how to selectively collect garbage?
Unfortunately, the topic is still very much in its
infancy in Romania, but with you, we can plant some
seeds in these areas as well.

Throughout your time here each weekend

will be free - however we thought it
would be a good idea to give a free week
to our volunteers, where they can
explore Romania by themselves, see the
places they want. So, week 6 is your
holiday week: take a road trip, explore
the castle of Dracule and take a bath in
the many lakes around the region.
Can you imagine that years ago there was a
village where straw was the main livelihood?
The village still exists! Of course, the
situation has changed since then, but the
straw is still a symbol of this community,
where the people create hats, jewelry, and
other tools from straw. Here you will spend
5 days and be part of the realization of
creative camp, together with the local
pastor.

The last camp will be a truly magical one! You wanna know why?
Because you will be hosted in a recently renovated castle, the
Ugron castle, located in Fiatfalva. Here you and the team will
organize a day camp for the local children, who have no means of
participating in camps held in the cities.

We are slowly coming to the end of this summer

adventure in the ninth week. We will spend the last
days in the city, where we will hold evaluations and
try to provide some help for the period after
volunteering, so that you can really end one of the
most beautiful periods of your life in the last week
of volunteering.
We are looking for you
if you are:

between the ages of 18 and 30

Interested in learning new things

pro - active

creative

open - minded

culturally and socially sensitive

What can the programme offer you?

Pocket / Food money

Travel reimbursement

Local mentor

Language support

A new home

Health insurance

Each volunteer will receive 150 € as food

allowance and 120 € as pocket money each
month.
Everything else, including house rental costs,
gas, electricity, water and internet costs,
appliances, and activity-related costs will be
managed by the hosting organization.
International travel is also reimbursed.
Volunteers will do their activities in a flexible
way, for about 6-7 hours/day and 5 days every
week. Two days are free every week and 2
other days are holidays every month.
Housing and
logistics
The volunteers will be accommodated in a rented
house that has 5 bedrooms, 3 beds in each, with
bathrooms in the hallways and a yard. The other part
of the team will stay in a motel.

The house is fully

furnished with:
- a kitchen that has
fridges, stove,
microwave, dishes,
glasses, furniture, etc.
- 3 bathrooms that have
toilets, showers,
washing machine and other
cleaning appliances.

- bedrooms that have furniture

and beds in each.
- the house also has electricity,
gas, hot and cold water, and
internet connection with a Wi-Fi
connection

Both accommodations are close to the center and the

headquarters of our association, where we will meet very
often. However, be sure to prepare for moving as well, as 2
camps will have overnight stays.
About our
town
Cristuru Secuiesc lies at the eastern
end of the Transylvanian plateau
between the towns of Odorheiu
Secuiesc and Sighișoara, 400 meters
above sea level. There are a lot of
hills, meadows, lakes, rivers, and
forests for hikes and the Harghita
mountains are also close. In 2011
there were 9491 inhabitants, 9266 of
whom were declared Hungarian, 183
Romanian, and 8 German.
The community nowadays works in the
smaller textile, shoe, toy, and
furniture factories that popped up in
town with foreign companies. The
town still has an agricultural aspect
though as most of the community owns
a few acres of land around the town
and many have kitchen gardens.
Are you ready for this
JOURNEY?
For anyone wishing to join us as an ESC volunteer, we
will first require a CV and a motivation letter. These
can be sent to us at [email protected]. Also, we
require you to fill out an application form found
here.

THE application deadline IS THE 25TH

OF MAY 2024. But we will start
processing and selecting in order of
application, so the sooner you apply,
the more chances you have.

Upon receiving applications, the board

of the NGO will decide whether the
presented profile is appropriate for
our activities. In light of this decision,
we will either refuse candidates or
move on to a Zoom interview to
evaluate your motivation and
personality in a direct and oral
environment.
After the interview, the board will
make a decision and inform the
candidates.
