ASSIGNMENT 1

Lesson 6, Module 3

Name: Jhobelle Keith P. Laranjo Course & Year: BEED 2 - GENERALIST Score: 20
Subject: Educ 7 Date:February 21, 2021 Nature: Activity

1. Suppose a teacher gave a mathematics quiz with 50 items in non-consecutive two sessions on his
class. The teacher wanted to determine the reliability of two sets of scores by computing for the
Pearson r. He administered the two sets of test to his 10 students in GE 106 class. The following
are the scores as shown in Table 1 below. (10 points)

Table 1. Scores in Mathematics Quiz in Two Non-Consecutive Sessions

Student First Session ( Second Session xy x2 y2
x) (y)
1 31 28 868 961 784
2 37 29 1,073 1,369 841
3 26 27 702 676 729
4 27 32 864 729 1,024
5 26 31 806 676 961
6 44 45 1,980 1,936 2,025
7 35 40 1,400 1,225 1,600
8 34 37 1,258 1,156 1,369
9 27 36 972 729 1,296
10 39 38 1,482 1,521 1,444
Total Σx = 326 Σy = 343 Σxy = 11,405 Σy2 = 10,978 Σy2 = 12,073

Show solutions and Interpret the results.

Substitute:
r = N ( Σxy)−Σx (Σy) / √[N ( Σx2)−( Σx) 2][N (Σy2 )−( Σy) 2]
r = 10 (11,405 )−326(343) / √[10 (10,978)−(326) 2][10 (12,073)−(343) 2]
r = (114,050)−111,818 / √[(109,780)−106,276][(120,730)−117,649]
r = 2,232 / √[3,504][3,081]
r = 2,232 / √ 10,795,824
r = 2,232 / 3,285.6999254
r= 0.68
The value of a correlation coefficient is 0.68, it shows strong relationship.
2. Suppose that six students answered checklist about their hygiene with a scale 1 to 5, where in the
following are the corresponding scores. (10 points)

5 - Always; 4 - Often; 3 - Sometimes; 2 - Rarely; 1 - Never

The Checklist has four items. The teacher wanted to determine if the items have internal
consistency as shown in Table 2 below.

Table 2. Scores in Hygiene Checklist

Student Item Item Item Item Total Score – Mean (Score – Mean)2
1 2 3 4
1 4 4 5 3 16 -4.75 22.56
2 3 3 4 5 15 -5.75 33.06
3 2 5 3 4 14 -6.75 45.56
4 1 4 2 5 12 -8.75 76.56
5 3 2 1 4 10 -10.75 115.56
6 5 5 3 3 16 -4.75 22.56
TOTAL 18 23 18 24
x = 20.75 Σ(S - M)2 = 315.86

Σx2
σ2 = Σ (S - M)2 / (n – 1)
64 95 64 100
σ2 = 315.86 / (6-1)
SD2
2 1.37 2 0.8 ΣSD2 = 6.17 σ2 = 315.86 / 5
σ2 = 63.17

Show computations and interpret the results.

Formula: SD2 = (Σx2 - CF) / (N - 1) CF = (18)2 /6

Formula: CF = (Σx)2 / N CF = 324/6
CF = 54
Solution Item 1:
CF = (Σx)2 / N SD2 = (Σx2 - CF) / (N - 1)
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF)/(N - 1) CF = (18)2 /6
SD2 = (64 – 54)/(6 - 1) CF = 324/6
SD2 = 10 / 5 CF = 54
SD2 = 2
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF) / (N - 1)
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF)/(N - 1)
Solution Item 2:
SD2 = (64 – 54)/(6 - 1)
CF = (Σx)2 / N
SD2 = 10 / 5
CF = (23)2 /6
SD2 = 2
CF = 529/6
CF = 88.17
Solution Item 4:
CF = (Σx)2 / N
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF) / (N - 1)
CF = (24)2 /6
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF)/(N - 1)
CF = 576/6
SD2 = (95 – 88.17)/(6 - 1)
CF = 96
SD2 = 6.83 / 5
SD2 = 1.37
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF) / (N - 1)
SD2 = (Σx2 - CF)/(N - 1)
SD2 = (100 – 96)/(6 - 1)
SD2 = 4 / 5
Solution Item 3:
SD2 = 0.8
CF = (Σx)2 / N

Formula: Cronbach’s α = ( n/n−1 )( σ2−ΣSD2 / σ 2 )

Substitute:
Cronbach’s α = ( 6 / 6−1 )( 63.17 − 6.17 / 63.17 )
Cronbach’s α = ( 6 / 5 )( 57 / 63.17 )
Cronbach’s α = ( 342 / 315.85 )
Cronbach’s α = 1.082792 or 1.08

The internal consistency of the responses of students hygiene is 1.08, indicating perfect
correlation internal consistency.
