Electrical Power System

Distribution Systems
The distribution system is the most important
part of the electrical power system, and it is
the connection between the generated power
and consumers. It consists of :
1. Subtransmission
2. Primary feeders
3. Distribution transformers
4. Secondary circuits (feeder)
5. Service drops (consumers)
Distributor
Loop of Distributor
1. distribution board (distributor)
The distributor panel consists of neighboring cells. Cells are
installed on iron bars at a sufficient height from ground
surface for easy connection of cables. The distributor placed
in where does not conflict with the movement and entry of
equipment inside the building and taken into account the
freedom of maintenance teams during repair and
maintenance operations easily and insert maintenance
equipment.
Also, take care to place them away from the places of
equipment that cause vibration, water pipelines of all kinds
or gas pipelines.
The panel is installed on a cement base raised above. Cable
ducts are also prepared under the panels for easy
connection of electrical cables.
The Distributor Contents
1. Distribution board (distributor ).
2. Low voltage equipment, including
batteries and battery chargers.
3. Communication and control system
(generally, wireless).
4. Industrial safety equipment to
prevent fires.
❑The distributor board contains several types of cells:

1- A group of incoming cells (in Egypt to use 4-incoming

cells)
2 - A group of outgoing cells (commonly 8-outgoing
cells)
3- Two cells for connecting the bars, one of them is for
the bus riser, the other for the bus section (BS) or bus
coupler.
4- Auxiliary transformer cubical feeder cell.
5- There is also a power factor improvement capacitor
feeding cell that is installed on 11kV rods, called
(capacitor bank cubical) and almost similar to outgoing
cells.
❖ cell compartments
In general, each cell of the
distributor (incoming/outgoing)
as in figure.

✓ The upper section: It is for low-

voltage devices (110 volts) and
includes measuring and protection
devices
✓ The middle section: It is
characterized by
connected/disconnected.
✓ The lower section: It is
characterized by entering and
installing cables. It also contain
the voltage and current
transformers Dist. Cell
Incoming cell compartments details:
1 - MV-CB three-phase medium voltage circuit breaker (CB) with a capacity of
1250A.
2 – Earth switch connected to the earthing network.
3- Control circuits that operate with DC current to operate the circuits of
disconnecting and operating of CB.
4- Entry cables with a cross section of 3 (*1*400) or 3*300
5- Number of “3” current transformers (5/5/400), each of them used with 3-
phases, to feed the protective and measuring devices.
6- 3 ammeters to measure current in (A)
7- Number "3" voltage transformer (11000/√3, 110/√3,110/√3)
8- Active / reactive power meter
9- Indicator of the position of CB and an indicator of the position of the earth
switch .
10- Bulbs indicating the status connecting / disconnecting of CB.
11- Protection devices include: Over current relay, earth fault relay,
mechanical interlock between the earth switch and the CB prevents them
from being connected together.
Outgoing cell component details:
1-Three-phase medium voltage circuit breaker with a capacity of
630 A or 1250 A
2- Earth switch connected to the earth bar.
3 Control circuits that operate with DC current for the operation
of CB.
4- Outgoing cables (3 * 150 or 3 * 240 mm2)
5- 3 ammeters to measure current in A
6- 3 current transformers, usually 5/5/200
7- Indicator of the position of CB and an indicator of the position
of the earth switch .
8- Bulbs indicating the status of connecting / disconnecting CB
9-Protection devices include: Over current relay and earth fault
relay.
Note that the outgoing cell contains only a CT and does not need
a VT because there is no relay in o/p circuit.
