CHAPTER 1
Introduction
Technology has been an important part in our lives,
especially in this generation. Through the use of technology, work
has been easier and more efficient when compared to the past few
decades. With these connections in the palm of your hands, a
message is just a click away. This is just one of the many benefits
of networking. Acting as bridges to transfer data from one place to
another in just a few seconds, having a strong protection from
unwanted data, and protection of your own data, your network
connection is a very crucial part of our technological advancement.

Background of the study

De Guzman Celis & Dionisio Law Offices, located in Pasig City, is a law firm
owned by Attorneys Francisco G. DeGuzman, Mariano L. Celis II, and
currently by Amalia E. Dionisio. Law firm leaders face critical decisions in a
legal services marketplace that is consolidating and changing rapidly. For
law firms of every size, survival depends on transforming firm-centric
models to 21st century client-centered service business models. Elevating
the marketing and business development function from afterthought to
strategic weapon is the key.
As a small law firm, their use of technology are outdated compared to other
law firms. Having only a few staff as their IT specialist, their network
connections are in dire need of an upgrade. Considering that the firm does
not have their own server, and having to stick with only one wireless router,
their staff operates with the traditional hardcopy files which could
deteriorate in a few years.

Objectives of the study
Information Technology & Information Systems Department

General Objective
The study's general objective is to propose a network design to De
Guzman Celis & Dionisio Law Office

Specific Objectives
In order to achieve the general objective, the following specific
objectives must be met:
• To design
- Design a combined wired and wireless network diagram based on
the needs and budget constraints of the firm.
• To create
- Create a diagram showing the network topology.
• To provide
- Process flow of the organization to determine the networking
requirements.
- Ethernet specifications for each device
- Identify all the devices and describe their functions and cost.
- Document a network proposal including the IP address, devices, and
their cost.
• To configure and test our connections using the Packet Tracer ver.

Given an IP Address 194.168.100.0. Your client (WebSpace Lounge) has 2 Floors with
3 rooms per floor(subnet) located in the University Belt with 30 computers or
host/subnet per office. (Do not copy)
IP Address: 194.168.100.0

Subnet: 6 rooms

Host per Subnet: 30 computers

Subnetting Class C Rules:

Step 1: Borrowing Bits: Sample only

a. Borrow Three Bits: 1 + 2 + 4 =(Do not
7, is 7 > 6? Yes copy)
b. Therefore, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.248
c. 32 bits in one IP Address, since we borrowed 3, then 32 - 3 = /29
d. this gives us, 255.255.255.248 or /29

Step 2: Usable Subnets

a. 2b - 2
Sample only
b. 2^3 – 2
(Do not copy)
c. 8 - 2
d. = 6 subnets, which can now cover to 6 rooms

Step 3: Usable Hosts
