1. General Material Description

DIA-SCHUMALITH filter elements are success- filtration efficiency. The combination of support
fully used as backwashable surface filters for body and membrane guarantees a low differential
particle separation from hot gases and pressure at high filtration fineness and an excellent
aggressive liquids. They are made of a coarse cleaning behaviour. DIA-SCHUMALITH filter
porous support body of silicon carbide elements are especially used in the field of hot gas
ceramically bonded with a fine filtering filtration due to its outstanding resistance to
membrane. Different membranes are available temperature changes.
depending on field of application and demanded

2. Fields of Applications
DIA-SCHUMALITH (DS) Examples
Backwashable surface filters Catalyst recovery from reaction solutions,
for liquids e.g. production of hydrogene peroxide and caprolactam
Backwashable surface filters • Fluid Catalytic Cracking processes (FCC)
for gases • Incineration processes, e.g. PFBC of coal, radioactive contaminated waste
• Gasification processes IGCC, e.g. of coal, biomass, waste
• Finest filtration of water vapour

Further applications possible.

5. Chemical Resistance

DIA-SCHUMALITH filter elements are resistant against acids, saline solutions and organic solvents, liquid
or gaseous. They are not resistant to Hydrofluoric acid. DIA-SCHUMALITH filter elements are resistant
up to pH 10 in the alkaline range.

7. General Information

DIA-SCHUMALITH filter elements can be utilised in the food and beverage industry in accordance
with the German Foodstuffs and Consumer Goods Act and according to the European Directive
89/109/EEC – referring to directives 2002/72/EC and / or 84/500/EEC and their amendments, as
appropriate.
Special care has to be paid to the sealing when installing the filter elements.
Ceramic elements are to be handled with care.
The filter elements should not be cut to any other length as cutting may damage the surface
membrane.
Elements can be glued using commercial or special ceramic glues. Careful consideration should be
taken regarding operating temperatures and chemical resistance.
