Electrical drawings
Electrical drawing is the type of technical drawing that provide visual
representation describing electrical systems or circuits.
It consists of lines, symbols, dimensions, and notations to accurately
convey an engineering's design to the workers, who install the electrical
system on the job.
Some of types of electrical drawing are:
❖ Block diagram
❖Circuit(schematic) diagram
❖Wiring diagram
❖Installation diagram
❖Layout(Site plan) diagram
Block diagram
Block diagram shows how the components of the circuit relate to each
other, represented by a square or rectangular boxes.
It does not contain information about wiring and placements of
individual components

Source Charge Battery

Solar panel Inverter
(Sun) Controller system

DC power loads AC power loads

Block diagram for solar photovoltaic system
Site plan or layout drawing
They show the position(location) of the electrical equipment which is to
be installed.
The electrical equipment is identified by a graphical symbol.
❖ Use installation symbols
Installation plan diagram
( Plan of installation)
It presents information needed by electrician to install part of a circuit,
such as material required to carry out the installation
❖ Use installation symbols
❖ Use only one(single) line
❖ The number of wires is represented by number of short thin slanting lines e.g.
OR where n= number of wires

L/N/E
Circuit/schematic diagram
A circuit diagram shows how a circuit works.
The purpose of a circuit diagram is to help on understanding of the
circuit.
It does not specify the actual location of the components
❖ Use circuit symbols
Wiring diagram
A wiring diagram shows the detailed connections between components or items of equipment.
The purpose of a wiring diagram is to help someone with the actual wiring of the circuit, as it
shows how circuit is actually constructed

❖ Use wiring symbols
