3 Measurement Strategy
Measurement Strategy

Making measurements is a central step in quality control and product develop-

ment. It is important to determine before the measurement, which findings from
the acquired measurements and the resulting measurement results should be
obtained later. In a measurement strategy, one specifies how and what shall
be measured, to obtain findings about a running process for its optimization.
Thus, developing a measurement strategy with the associated data acquisition
plan is crucial for the information content of the measurement results and the
effectiveness of the measures derived from them.
For example, if strip material of a coating plant is to be coated as uniformly
as possible, then it will be prudent to divide the material into a grid of mea-
surement points along the production direction and perpendicular to it. This
will allow for drawing conclusions about the time stability of the process and
the adjustments of the system.

FISCHER DataCenter IP-Multi: Inspection Plan

If you use the FISCHER DataCenter IP-Multi software variant in conjunction with
the FISCHER DUALSCOPE® FMP100/150 handheld instrument, you can cre-
ate inspection plans.
On the basis of the defined measurement strategy, you create an inspection
plan on the PC and then transfer it to the FISCHER handheld instrument DUAL-
SCOPE® FMP100/150. On the display of the handheld instrument, the oper-
ator is guided step-by-step through the measurement acquisition procedure.

If your DUALSCOPE® FMP100/150 is equipped with a Bluetooth

module, then you can transfer measurement readings via the
Bluetooth interface, but no inspection plans. For transferring inspec-
tion plans use the USB interface.

Properties of an inspection plan

• One-time creation in the FISCHER DataCenter IP-Multi
• Definition of specimen and scope of the parts
• Definition of measuring positions, test methods and number of measure-
ments through the definition of characteristics
• Usage of part names and names of the characteristics in all subsequent
procedures
• Besides measurements, characteristics can be inputs or selections
• Assignment of photos or drawings to the specimen and to the character-
istics: these photos are displayed on the FMP100/150.
