1. Structure of a paragraph
In terms of organization, a paragraph typically contains the following three components:
- A topic sentence includes a topic and a controlling idea.
- Supporting sentences include explanations and evidence.
- A concluding sentence summarizes the main points, rephrases the topic sentence, or gives a final
opinion.
3.1. Pre-writing
- Identify the main topic: First, you need to read the question carefully and underline keywords that
contain the topic.
- Brainstorm ideas: In this step, you brainstorm as many ideas about the topic as you can. Write
anything related the topic using Wh-questions (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How ...).
- Create an outline: Organize your ideas in an outline with three parts (topic sentence, supporting
sentences, and concluding sentence).
