MGP32X/MGP24X

Firmware Update Guide

Thank you for choosing a Yamaha product.


This guide explains how to update the MGP32X/MGP24X firmware.

■ Precautions (Please be sure to read this section first!)


・ The user assumes full responsibility for the update.
・ Please note that the device may be damaged if you fail to follow these instructions properly,
or turn off the device or remove the USB storage device while the update is in progress.
・ If the update fails, and the device still does not operate correctly even after you execute the
update once again, please contact your Yamaha dealer.
・ Yamaha Corporation owns exclusive copyrights for the MGP32X/MGP24X firmware, its
update program, and the update guide.
・ It is prohibited to duplicate or modify the firmware, software or guides, in part or in their
entirety, without permission from the copyright owner.
・ The screen shots in this guide are for use with this update procedure only and may be
different from the actual screen shots.
・ The company names and product names in this document are the trademarks or registered

■ Preparing for the update
1. Make sure you have a USB storage device (formatted on computer in FAT32 format) and
a computer with a built-in USB connector.
2. Download the latest firmware of the MGP32X/MG24X from the Yamaha Pro Audio website.
(This is not necessary if you have already downloaded the firmware together with this
document.)

3. Connect the formatted USB storage device to the USB connector of your computer.
4. Copy the file “MGP32X_P.PGM” in the “mgp32_frm***” folder (*** indicates the version
number) extracted from the downloaded file to the root directory of the USB storage
device. (Use the same file for the MGP24X.)
5. Remove the USB storage device when the file has been copied.
For more information on removing the USB storage device, refer to the owner’s manual of
your computer and USB storage device.

■ Updating the MGP32X/MGP24X firmware


Updating the firmware takes about 15 minutes.
1. Turn on the power of the MGP32X/MGP24X while pressing the TAP button on
the top panel.
The message shown below appears on the display.

2. Insert the USB storage device with “MGP32X_P.PGM” file copied in its root
directory to the USB IN connector .
When the main program is detected, the message below (indicating the version number
of the program to be loaded) appears on the display.

3. Press Knob 2 to start writing the main program.

Caution: Do not remove the USB storage device or power-off the MGP32X/MGP24X while
accessing the USB storage device.
① When reading of the program data from the USB storage device starts, the message
shown below appears on the display (for about 10 minutes).

② When writing to the MGP32X/MGP24X starts, the message shown below appears on
the display (for about one minute).

③ When verifying the program data after writing starts, the message shown below
appears on the display.

4. When writing is completed, and the message shown below appears on the
display, press Knob 2 to restart.
If restarting is not necessary, simply turn off the power.

5. If necessary, confirm that the firmware was correctly updated.
① After starting the unit in the usual manner, simultaneously press the FX1, GEQ, and
USB buttons on the top panel.

② The versions of the main program and the boot program appear on the display.
Confirm that the main program version is the same as the one you loaded. The following
example screen is from version 1.0.

This completes the update procedure of the MGP32X/MGP24X firmware.
