1. All types of businesses in different industries use data to predict and model
scenarios.

a. Provide TWO examples of industries where data is used to model scenarios.

Any TWO valid answers - healthcare (hospitals), agriculture (farming),


logistics (planning how to send packages), financial (banks), etc. [2]

2. The internet is all the hardware and software that allow us to communicate and share
data across the globe. Hardware such as ethernet cables, wifi routers, switches,
computers, and much more.

For us to use the internet our device needs to have an IP address.

a. Explain what an IP address is.

An IP address is a unique identifier/address of a device on a network or


the internet. It is used to identify devices on a network. [1]

b. Many people use URLs like www.google.com instead of IP addresses like


142.250.191.78.

i. What do we use URLs for?

URLs are used to find webpages or files on websites on the


internet, like using www.google.com instead of the IP address
of 142. 250.191.78. [1]

ii. Explain why we use the URLs and not IP addresses when typing it
into a web browser (Google Chrome).

URLs like www.google.com are easier to remember


than IP addresses like 142. 250.191.78. [1]
iii. Explain how DNS allows a user to visit a website.

DNS translates URLs to IP addresses


(or finds/locates the IP address for a specific URL).

3. When using networks we sometimes encounter (get) errors. This can happen to
wired and wireless networks.
a. State TWO reasons why.

Any TWO valid reasons - electromagnetic interference (EMI), power


surge, weak signal, hacking, etc. [2]

b. Provide ONE benefit of using wireless networks over wired networks.

Any ONE valid reason - It is convenient (easier and more comfortable to


use), no need for cables, share networks easily, easier to move around
while being connected to the network, etc. [1]

c. Name the THREE types of wireless networks.

WiFi, cellular data and Bluetooth [3]


d. Provide TWO differences between Bluetooth and WiFi networks.

Bluetooth connects/works over a short range compared to WiFi which


works over longer distances.
Bluetooth is used to connect to devices and share/send files, but WiFi is
used to allow a device to connect to a network of devices or the
internet.
Accept any more valid differences. [2]

e. Which wireless network would you recommend to use when walking in the
street? Explain your answer.

Cellular data (4G) because it has the longest range. [2]

f. Which network generation gives faster speeds (bandwidth) 4G or 5G?

5G has faster transfer speeds. (About 10X faster).[1]

4. When browsing the internet Evie finds a website that sells discounted video games.
You have to give the website your bank card numbers to buy games.
a. Name TWO ways can Evie see if the website is safe to use.

She can see if the URL has https:// or http:// - the https:// means the
website is safe. Secondly, she can see if the website has a padlock
symbol in the browser. [2]

b. The website says the data being sent is encrypted. Explain the purpose of
using encryption when sending and receiving data.

This prevents hackers to steal your data (and use it to impersonate you
and buy items with your money or sell information about you). [1]

c. Use the Caesar Cipher Key to encrypt the message CAT.

5. The different software on your computer can be application software or system


software.
a. Explain the difference between system software and application software.

System software allows your computer’s hardware to run and allows


other programs to run. Application software does specific tasks but is
not necessary for a computer to function. [2]

6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making amazing things possible in the world.


a. Define Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Artificial Intelligence is for a computer to have the ability to think like a


person and complete complex tasks expected to be done by people. [1]

b. Which of the following are examples of AI?
