Uporaba:

Kao i u svim Continuous vremenima, i u ovom je vremenu naglasak na


trajanju radnje!

Past Perfect Continuous nam služi da bismo iskazali neku dužu prošlu
radnju koja se događala ili trajala do nekog trenutka u prošlosti i završila
prije neke druge prošle radnje (koja je u bližoj prošlosti i izražena je Past
Simple vremenom).

The guests had been waiting for an hour before the bus picked them up.

Prilozi: FOR, HOW LONG (u upitnim rečenicama)


Past Perfect Simple smo koristili za radnju koja se dogodila prije
neke druge prošle radnje.

The wind blew away the leaves that we had collected.

Razlika između toga vremena (Simple) i ovoga (Continuous) je samo


u tome da ukoliko je radnja koja se dogodila prije neke druge prošle
radnje trajala neko vrijeme, koristimo Past Perfect Continuous.

The wind blew away the leaves that we had been collecting for over an hour.
PAZI! - Ne koristimo glagole stanja u ovom vremenu!

U Continuous vremenima ne koriste se glagoli stanja (be, have, know, see,


want, belong, love, believe itd). U takvim rečenicama umjesto Past
Perfect Continuousa moramo koristiti Past Perfect Simple.

Eric had been knowing Vilma for years before they got married. WRONG

Eric had known Vilma for years before they got married. CORRECT
