REFLECTION PAPER
The Blind Soldiers
The World War II was a time of great turmoil and uncertainty for the Philippines, as the
country was occupied by Japanese forces and subjected to brutal oppression and
violence. In the face of this difficult situation, many commoners from the Philippines
stepped forward to join the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFE) to
protect their country and fight against the Japanese invaders. This movie tells the story
of five men from the Teduray tribe of Cotabato who enlisted in the United States Armed
Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) during World War II, hoping to defend their homeland
from the Japanese invaders and to protect their family. However, they soon realized that
they were literate and unprepared for the horrors of war, and had to rely on their
courage, faith, and camaraderie to Survive.
The movie impressed me with its realistic portrayal of the struggles and sacrifices of the
Teduray soldiers, who were often overlooked and discriminated by their fellow Filipinos
and Americans. This five men, who came from humble backgrounds and had limited
education, were initially dismissed by their superiors as being unfit for military service.
However, they refused to be deterred and persisted in their efforts to join the fight.
Eventually, they were accepted into the army and sent to the front lines, where they
faced incredible challenges and hardship. Despite their lack of formal education and
training, the five men proved themselves to be resourceful and resilient soldiers. They
adapted quickly to the harsh conditions of war and demonstrated a fierce loyalty to their
fellow soldiers and their country. Their bravery and selflessness in the face of danger
inspired others around them and earned them the respect of their commanders and
fellow soldiers.
The movie made me feel so proud of Filipino heritage and inspired me to learn more
about the history and diversity of my country. The movie also challenged me to reflect
on the meaning of patriotism and heroism, especially in times of crisis and conflict. The
movie raised some questions for me about the role of education, communication, and
cooperation in achieving peace and justice. The movie also left me wondering about the
fate of the Teduray people today, and how they cope with the modern challenges of
development and globalization. The movie relates to my personal experiences as a
student who values learning and curiosity, I can empathize with the Teduray soldiers
who wanted to improve themselves and their community through education. I can also
appreciate their bravery and determination in facing difficulties and dangers.
My main theme or message for this reflection paper is that "The Blind Soldiers" is a
powerful and inspiring movie that honors the legacy of the Teduray soldiers who fought
for freedom and dignity during World War II. The movie shows how they overcame their
literacy and ignorance with courage and faith, and how they preserved their culture and
identity amid oppression and violence. The movie also teaches us valuable lessons
about patriotism, heroism education, communication, operation, peace, justice,
diversity, respect for nature.
The story of these five Teduray soldiers during the Japanese invasion in World War II is
a testament to their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering love for our nation. Despite their
lack of formal education, they rose above adversity and made a significant impact in
protecting our homeland. Their legacy serves as a reminder of the resilience and
determination that can be found in every individual, regardless of their educational
background. We owe a debt of gratitude to these five brave men and the countless
others who fought to safeguard our country during this tumultuous period in history.
In conclusion, I highly recommend "The Blind Soldiers to anyone who wants to learn
more about the history and culture of the Philippines, especially the indigenous peoples
who contributed to its nationhood. The movie is not only informative but also emotional
and engaging, it will make you laugh, cry, think, and feel like it will also make you proud
to be a Pure Filipino.
