Introduction
On 11th November 2024, a team of 10 B.E. Computer Science and Engineering students, known
as Team RoadRangers, took a step forward in spreading awareness about Traffic Rules and Road
Safety by organizing an informative session at Vittal PU College High School Section in Vittal.
This initiative was part of our National Service Scheme (NSS) activities, aimed at promoting
safer road practices among young students.

The visit aimed to address key traffic safety challenges faced by students and equip them with
practical knowledge to stay safe on the roads. We interacted with students from the 10 th standard,
creating a welcoming and interactive environment to discuss important topics. These included
the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, understanding traffic signals, pedestrian safety,
and the dangers of over speeding and drunk driving. We also highlighted the importance of
avoiding distractions like mobile phones while walking or driving, and the significance of
adhering to road safety measures in reducing accidents. Real-life scenarios and examples were
shared to help the students relate better to the importance of traffic discipline. Additionally, we
conducted a fun and engaging quiz on traffic rules and organized a demonstration of basic hand
signals used by traffic police.

The session was designed to tackle the major challenges of road safety while providing students
with practical knowledge to keep them safe. We had the chance to interact with a group of 10th-
grade students, creating an open and engaging atmosphere where they felt comfortable
discussing important road safety topics. Our conversation began with the importance of safety
gear, like helmets and seat belts. Through real-life stories, we demonstrated how these simple
habits could drastically reduce the severity of injuries in the event of an accident. We encouraged
students to not only follow these practices themselves but also spread the message to their
families, ensuring the impact of this lesson would extend far beyond the classroom.

Next, we dove into understanding traffic signals and pedestrian safety. We explained the
meaning behind different traffic signals and road signs, ensuring the students knew how to
navigate the roads responsibly. Pedestrian safety was another key topic—emphasizing the proper
use of zebra crossings, footpaths, and staying alert while walking near traffic. The risks
associated with speeding, drunk driving, and distractions like using mobile phones while walking
or cycling were also addressed. We shared real-life situations and examples, which helped
students connect with the consequences of reckless behaviour on the roads. These relatable
stories really brought the topic to life and reinforced the importance of practicing responsible
road conduct.

To make the session more engaging, we included some fun activities, like a traffic rules quiz.
The students eagerly participated, and small prizes were handed out to encourage active
involvement. We also demonstrated hand signals commonly used by traffic police, giving
students a practical way to understand their significance and how to respond when faced with
them on the road. A central part of our session was highlighting everyday scenarios where road
safety is often overlooked. We talked about how simple actions like waiting for the green signal
or using the footpath can make a world of difference in preventing accidents. The session aimed
to inspire students to take responsibility for their own safety and become advocates for road
safety within their communities. We urged them to share what they learned with their families
and friends, helping to create a wider network of road safety advocates.

Another critical topic we covered was emergency preparedness. We introduced the students to
important emergency measures, like dialling emergency numbers (108 for ambulance) and
performing basic first aid. The idea was to empower them to stay calm and take responsible
action in the event of an accident, further ensuring that they can help in an emergency situation.
One of the newer concepts we introduced to the students was the Digilocker app, which has
become an important tool in today’s digital age. We explained how students could store essential
documents—such as driving licenses, vehicle registration, and insurance—digitally on their
phones. This not only makes accessing documents quick and easy in case of emergencies, but it
also helps in situations when physical documents are lost or forgotten. By highlighting the
importance of Digilocker, we aimed to show students how technology can make road safety
more efficient and accessible.

The session successfully captured the attention of the students and got them excited about road
safety. We used an interactive approach, combining quizzes, demonstrations, and real-life
scenarios, which kept them engaged while ensuring they understood the significance of the
information. By the end of the session, students expressed their eagerness to share the road safety
message with their peers and families. It was clear that they had not only grasped the key
concepts, but they were also motivated to adopt safer behaviours and help make their
communities safer. Reflecting on the session, we realized that the most important takeaway
wasn’t just the knowledge shared—it was the shift in the students’ attitudes. They left with a
sense of responsibility and the desire to take action. This is the essence of what Team
RoadRangers aimed to achieve: inspire a culture of road safety where each individual feels
responsible for the safety of themselves and those around them.

As part of our NSS activities, this initiative left us feeling hopeful. Every small change in
behaviour whether it’s wearing a helmet, obeying traffic rules, or encouraging others can have a
huge impact on road safety. The experience of interacting with the students and seeing their
excitement to make a difference was incredibly fulfilling. As Team RoadRangers, we are
confident that by educating the younger generation, we are contributing to a future where road
safety is a shared responsibility, and safer roads are the norm for everyone.

This initiative was more than just an awareness session it was a collective effort to inspire
change and promote a safer future for everyone.
Objectives
