People hold differing views about the purposes of museums to the young generation nowaday. While
some people thinks that museums should be enjoyable places to attract and entertain young people, I
stand with those who believe that museums is meant for educating, not for entertaining.
On the one side of the coin, there are strong reasons to think that museums should be attracting and
entertaining places. Firstly, museum could be a place to entertain because this is one of many tourist
attractions. The main purpose of museums is to showcase objects, especially relics of major events in
the past or mostly remembrances of wars. This place would become boring if visitors have to go through
too much educational content. In this case, museums should consider a redesign to focus on visual
impression, have various activities in order to entertain and attract more young people.
On the other side of the coin, I support the view that the main purpose of museums is to educate and
inspire young generation. The first prominent justification is that museums are places where we teach
visitors things that they did not previously know. Since every objects in the museums always have a
story behind it and its story is valuable so they decided to keep it in the museums for future generations
to study or even get inspired by it. In order to do that, there are various ways. Either visitors can have a
professional guides to walk them around or they can read and listen to specific scripts for each objects
during the visiting, museums can play an important role in teaching people about history, culture or
other aspects of life.
In conclusion, for the reasons mention above, it seems that museums could be places to attract and
entertain young people, but to me it should be meant for educating and inspiring purposes.
