Inserting Formulae in Excel

• Typing directly into cell

• Refer to cells using mouse
• Using Functions
Cell Reference

• Relative Cell Reference – When a cell address containing a formula is copied to

another cell, the references(address) of the cells automatically changes to the
relative cell, this type of reference is called as Relative cell reference.
• Absolute Cell Reference – When a cell address containing a formula is copied to
another cell, the references(address) of the cells is fixed and does not change to
the relative cell, this type of reference is called as Absolute cell reference.
• Mixed Cell Reference – A mix of relative and absolute is called as Mixed reference.
Functions of Excel

• Sum() – Sum of selected cells

• Average() – Finds average of selected cells
• Product() – Finds product of selected cells
• Quotient() – Finds quotient after dividing the first argument with second argument.
• Mod() – Finds modulus, i.e., remainder after division.
• Max() – Finds the maximum value among the given values.
• Min() – Finds the maximum value among the given values.

Functions of Excel

• Count() – Counts and displays number of cells that has

• Abs() – Returns the absolute value
• Power() – Finds the result of a number raised to a power.
• If() – Used to check a condition, depending upon the condition either of the value is
displayed
• Today() – Displays System’s date
• Now() – Displays System’s date and time
• DAY() – Displays the day in the given date
• Month() – Displays the month in the given date
• Year() – Displays the year in the given date
• Days360() – Displays the number of days between two dates.

Errors

Error Meaning
#DIV/0 Divide by zero error
#VALUE Wrong Type of operand present in a formula
#REF! Non-valid reference present in formula
#NAME? Function name not recognised
##### Value too large to fit in a cell
Charts

• A Chart is a tool used to represent data graphically.

Elements of a Chart
Elements of Chart

• Chart Area – Each and every part of Chart window comes under Chart Area
• Data Series – Group of related values, depicted as bar or line is called as data series
• Axis – A Line that serves as major reference for plotting data in a chart.
• Plot Area – The area within chart area where the chart is been displayed
• Chart Title - The label given to the chart
• Grid Lines – these are the horizontal and vertical lines forming a grid in the plot
area.
• Legend – Identification for the plotted data series.
Types of Charts

• Bar Chart: Better used for comparison among different values as horizontal bars.
• Column Chart: Better used for comparison among different values as vertical bars.
• Line Chart: Better used for values changed over a period of time
• Pie Chart: Better used for comparison of the different parts of the whole value.
• XY Scatter chart: Similar to line chart but marked as points rather than line.
• Area Chart: Similar to line chart but the area covered will be filled with color
• Doughnut Chart: Similar to pie chart but in the shape of doughnut.
Conditional Formatting

• Feature to change the appearance of a cell,

depending on certain c0nditions.
Sorting

• Arranging of data in either ascending or

descending order.
Filtering

• Displaying of the required data that satisfies the

required condition
Subtotal

• It is a feature used to find subtotal of given range

of cells.
