Mensuration Formulas and Concepts

1. 2D Shapes

- Square:

Area = side x side

Perimeter = 4 x side

- Rectangle:

Area = length x breadth

Perimeter = 2 x (length + breadth)

- Triangle:

Area = (1/2) x base x height

Perimeter = sum of all sides

- Circle:

Area = 3.14 x radius x radius

Circumference = 2 x 3.14 x radius

2. 3D Shapes

- Cube:

Surface Area = 6 x side x side

Volume = side x side x side

- Cuboid:

Surface Area = 2 x (lb + bh + hl)

Volume = length x breadth x height

- Cylinder:

Surface Area = 2 x 3.14 x radius x (height + radius)

Volume = 3.14 x radius x radius x height

- Sphere:

Surface Area = 4 x 3.14 x radius x radius

Volume = (4/3) x 3.14 x radius x radius x radius

- Cone:

Surface Area = 3.14 x radius x (radius + slant height)

Volume = (1/3) x 3.14 x radius x radius x height

3. Tips to Remember:

- Always write formulas before solving a problem.

- Use the correct units (e.g., m^2 for area, m^3 for volume).

- Memorize the values of 3.14 as an approximation for pi.

- For composite shapes, divide the shape into simpler parts.
