NOTICE

To

All Classes, Teaching & Non Teaching Staff 12/12/2024

The Arts Fest 2024 of our college union Art High is scheduled to conduct on

30/12/2024 (Monday) ,31/12//2024 (Tuesday) and from 8/1/2025 to 10/1/2025. Offstage items

will be conducted on 30th & 31st of December 2024 and onstage events on 8th , 9th and 10th of

January 2025.

. The list, schedule and rules of the programs will be displayed on the notice board. All teaching,

non teaching staff and students are requested to make this event a grand success.

GUIDELINES FOR ARTS FEST 2024-2025
As per the decision of the staff council, the students have to follow the following guidelines for
the smooth conduct of the Arts fest.
General rules :
Identity card is very compulsory , and no student should be allowed to enter into the campus
without ID card
Teacher coordinator
There should be a teacher coordinator for each department and activities of the department
should be under the guidance of the teacher coordinator.
Competitions-The competitions will be held department wise.
Points for competition
 Individual items : first prize - 5 points
second prize - 3 points
third prize- 1 point
 Group items : first prize - 10 points
second prize - 6 points
third prize- 2 points

Minus Marks/Penalty

Those departments which failed to participate in an event (ON STAGE) , after enrollment ,
should face penalty of 3 negative points for individual items and 5 negative points for group
items.
PENALTY FOR EXCEEDING TIME LIMIT
Participants exceeding the time limit will not be disqualified but subject to penalties:
a) Grace time of 10 SECONDS for items up to 10 minutes and 20 SECONDS for items
above 10 minutes will be allowed to complete the program. b) After grace time, the final
bell rings; Judges may penalize by trimming marks for exceeding the time limit
Rules for competition
 At least three participants should be required for an event to be considered in a competition
level.
 Maximum number of on stage events, allowed for one student to participate is strictly limited to 5
 For group events, each department can only send one team per event.
 Three participants may be sent from each department for each off-stage events.

APPEALS

i. Handling of Appeals: The appeal Committee has the authority to consider written
appeals from participants regarding the conduct of the arts fest and may request relevant
records.

ii. Procedure for Submitting Appeals: A written appeal should be signed by the participant
and must be submitted within an hour of the announcement of the result along with a
protest fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only). The Committee's decision is
binding and final. Appeal regarding Judges' marks will not be entertained.

iii. Disqualification Authority: The Committee can disqualify participants or teams for gross
misbehaviour or violation of rules.

ON STAGE EVENTS (8TH AND 9TH JANUARY 2024)
RULES
I. MUSICAL EVENTS
1. LIGHT VOCAL SOLO
1. Competitions are held separately for male & female participants.
2. Max time permitted for the song is five minutes.
3. Only Non film folk songs/geeth/gazal/bhajan, snabed and abhangas can be presented.
4. Judgment will be made on the qualities like swara, tal, composition, general impression
2. CLASSICAL VOCAL SOLO
1. Competitions are held separately for male & female participants.
2. Item can be presented either in Hindustani or karnatic style
3. Max time permitted for the song is ten minutes.
4. Film songs are not allowed under this item
5. Judgment will be made on the qualities like swara, tal, composition, general impression
6. Competitions are held separately for men and women participants

4. GROUP SONG INDIAN

1. A maximum of six singers is allowed in a group. Additionally, a maximum of three


participants can play instruments (non-singers), and singers are also allowed to play
instruments.
2. The Group song should be taken from Indian songs in any regional language, excluding
film songs.
3. Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes, excluding setting time.
4. The setting time for a group song shall not exceed 5 minutes.
5. Judging will focus on the quality of singing only, considering Sruthi, Tal, Rhythm,
Harmony, etc., and not on the team's makeup, costumes, or actions.
5. GROUP SONG WESTERN
1. The maximum number of singers in a group can be six, and a maximum of three
participants playing instruments (non-singers) are allowed. Singers are also allowed to
play instruments.
2. Only students are allowed as participants (singers/non-singers playing instruments).
3. The group song should be in English.
4. Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes, excluding setting time.
5. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 5 minutes.

6. Judging will focus on the quality of singing only and not on makeup, costumes, or actions
of the team.

4. Stringed INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (Stringed, wind,percussion) Eastern/western


style

1. Instruments of Western origin adapted to the Indian raga system are allowed for the Eastern
category.
2. For the Eastern category, items can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic
style.
3. The maximum permitted time is ten (10) minutes.
4. Judging will be based on qualities like Tal, Composition, Nadam, Rhythm, Sruthi,
and General impression, among others.
5. Participants should bring their musical instruments for the event.

5. WIND INSTRUMENT SOLO (WESTERN/EASTERN)


1. The maximum permitted time for the item is ten (10) minutes.
2. For Western: Wind instruments of Western origin like Harmonium, Accordion,
Clarinet, Saxophone, Organ, etc., are to be used. (Clarification: Electronically
operated Keyboards are not considered wind instruments).
3. For Eastern: Wind instruments of Indian origin or instruments of Western origin
adapted to the Indian Raga System are allowed (e.g., Harmonium, Pullankuzhal,
Banzoori, Nadhaswaram, etc.).
4. Wind instruments (Eastern) can be presented in either Hindustani/Karnatic Style,
while Wind instruments (Western) should be presented in any of the Western
Styles.
5. Judging criteria will likely include qualities such as Swara, Tal, Composition,
Selection of Raga (Indian), Rhythm, emotion, originality, and general impression.

6. PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT (EASTERN/WESTERN)


1. Items can be presented either in Karnatic or Hindustani style for Indian instruments
and in any of the Western styles for Western instruments.
2. The maximum permitted time for the item is ten (10) minutes.
3. Judging will likely be based on qualities like Tal, Composition, Nadam,
Kalapramanam, Manodharma, General impression, etc.
4. Eastern Instruments: Indian Chenda, Tabala, Pakhawaj, Mridangam, Ghatam, Thavil,
Edekka, Maddalam, Ganjira, etc.
5. Western: Triple Drum, Jazz, etc. (Clarification: Instruments like electronically
operated Rhythm Pads are not included in this category).

7. WESTERN VOCAL SOLO

1. The competition is open to both male and female participants
2. The time allotted for the item is a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. The language of the song shall be only English.
4. Judgment will be based on qualities like composition, rhythm, coordination, and general
impression, among others.
8. MAPPILAPATTU (Solo)

1. Max time permitted for the song is 5 minutes.


2. Film songs are not allowed.
3. There shall be no separate competition for Male and female
4. Karaoke is not allowed
5. No accompanying instruments are allowed.
6. Aspects Considered:  Literature, cultural identification, rhythm, orchestration (harmonious music).

9. VANCHIPPATT (Group)
1. Maximum 8 students in a group
2. Max time permitted for the song is 10 minutes.
3. Song can be either kuttanadan style or aranmula style
10. NADANPATTU
1. Minimum 5 in a group and maximum of 8 in a group.
2. State the tradition of the song while performing on stage
3. Film songs are not allowed for competition.
4. No CD or karaoke support permitted
5. Only non-film folk songs can be presented.
6. Duration for the event is limited to 6 minutes
7. Costume setup won’t affect grading.
8. Additional Details:
 Literature, musical notes, clarity, uniformity of the chorus, instruments.
 Local percussion instruments used by contestants.

II. DANCE EVENTS


1. BHARATHANATYAM
1. Each participant will be allowed up to 15 min including time for preparation
2. Max 4 accompanist is permissible.
3. Judgment will be based basically on the qualities like tal, technique, rhythm, abhinaya
or expression, costume, footwork, general impression etc.
4. Song for the event can be either vocal or recorded.
5. ‘Varnam’ should be the base for the performance

2. MOHINIYATTAM

1. Participants are allowed up to 15 minutes including time for preparation.


2. Maximum three accompanists are permissible.
3. Judgment is based on the qualities like tal, technique, rhythm, abhinaya or expression,
costumes, footwork and overall impression.
4. Song for the event can be either vocal or recorded
5. ‘Varnam’ should be the base for the performance
3. KUCHIPUDI

1. Participants are allowed up to 15 minutes including time for preparation.


2. Maximum three accompanists are permissible.
3. Judgment is based on the qualities like tal, technique, rhythm, abhinaya or expression,
costumes, footwork and overall impression.
4. Song for the event can be either vocal or recorded
5. ‘Varnam’ should be the base for the performance

5. FOLKDANCE (Individual)
1. Max 4 accompanists are permissible.
2. The dance can be either primitive or folk dance
3. Classical and cinematic dances are not allowed.
3. Duration of the dance should not exceed 10 minutes
4. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, makeup, sets and
over all performance.
5. Song for the event can be either vocal or recorded
6. FOLK DANCE (GROUP)
1. Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos.
2. The team may consist of boys and girls.
3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes.
4. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all effect/ performance.
5. Songs for the event can be either vocal or recorded.

7. MARGAMKALI
1. Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos. Maximum
10 dancers & accompanists, including singers, are allowed, totaling 4

2. The event is restricted for female participants.


3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes.
4. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all performance/effect.
5. Song for the event must be vocal.
11. THIRUVATHIRA
1. Maximum number oIf participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos. Maximum 10
dancers & accompanists, including singers, are allowed, totaling 4

2. The event is restricted for female participants.


3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes.
4. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all performance/effect.
5. Song for the event must be vocal.

12. OPPANA

1 Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos. Maximum 10
dancers & accompanists, including singers, are allowed, totaling 4

2. The event is restricted for female participants.


3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes
4. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all effect/performance.
5.Song for the event must be vocal.
11. DUFFMUTTU
1. Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos
2. The event is restricted for male participants.
3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes
4. The songs used for duffmuttu should be Arabi baith
5. Song for the event must be vocal.

6. The Judgment will be based on costumes, baith, rhythm, percussion and overall
effect/performance.
12. RETRO (SINGLE)
1. Old songs of any local language will be permitted with at least 13 years of old.
2. Costumes must be of the same age.
3. Duration of the event should not exceed 5 minutes.
4. No profanity is to be heard.
5. No substitution permitted.
6. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all effect/performance.
7. Old medley is allowed but remix and DJ are not allowed.
13. RETRO (GROUP)
1. Old songs of any local language will be permitted with at least 13 years of old.
2. Costumes must be of the same age.
3. Duration of the event is limited to 10 minutes.
4. No profanity is to be heard.
5. Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos. No
substitution permitted.
6. Judgment will be based on the rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, and makeup,
sets and over all effect/performance.
7. Old medley is allowed but remix and DJ are not allowed.
14. VATTAPATTU
1. Maximum number of participants allowed for the event is limited to 10 nos
2. The event is restricted for male participants.
3. Duration of the event should not exceed 10 minutes
4. Song for the event must be vocal.
5. The Judgment will be based on the costumes, rhythm, percussion and overall
effect/performance.

III. THEATRE EVENTS

1. MONO ACT
1. Time allowed is 5 minutes
2. Judgment will be based on qualities like ability to act, clarity of language, literary
expression, originality, humor, general impression etc.

2. MIMICRY
1. Time allowed is 5 minutes
2. Judgment will be based on command of voice, imitative ability, originality, humor and
general, impression etc.

3. MIME
1. Mime or mookabhinayam is acting without words . It is an art which expresses through
gestures, postures and facial expressions . It portrays ideas , theme or tells a story through
physical movements only.
2. No properties are allowed for the event.
3. Maximum no. of 6 participants are allowed, accompanists allowed are 2.
4. Maximum time allotted for the item is 5 minutes
5. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like idea, creativity of presentation, use of make-
up, costume, music and general impression

4. SKITS
1. Skits is short play either satirical or humorous in nature
2. Maximum no. of 6 participants are allowed to participate, accompanists allowed 3
3. Time allotted is 10 minutes
4. No personal remarks, aspersions, character assassination etc. is allowed
5. Use of make –up, drapery and back ground music is allowed
6. The item will be judged basically on qualities like theme, work on acting, stagecraft, total
design and general impression
7. Medium shall be English /Malayalam

5. FANCY DRESS
1. Max. time allotted is limited to 2 mts.
2. Judgement will be based on Costume, make-up, Theme adherences, Expressions and
gestures as per character relevance, Novelty New Ideas, Overall impressions.

3. No face covering masks are allowed


4. Sound tracks may be used
5. Sounds relating to expressions and gestures are allowed
6. Minimum stay on stage is 1 minute.
7. No static postures are allowed

6. TABLEAU
1. Max. time allotted on stage is limited to 7 mts .(5 mts for stage settings & 2 mts for
presentation).
2. Max no of participants is limited to 7.
3. Judgment will be based on Costume, make-up, Theme adherences, Expressions and as per
character relevance, Novelty New Ideas, Overall impressions and the properties used.

4. Sound tracks may be used

OFF STAGE EVENTS (30th AND 31st DECEMBER 2024

I. LITERARY EVENTS

1. ELOCUTION (MALAYALAM /ENGLISH/HINDI/ARABIC)

1. Maximum time allotted for the item is 5 minutes


2. The topic will be given 10 minutes before the commencement of the event
3. After the release of the topic, participants will not be allowed to use mobile phone,
laptop, to refer the books or to discuss
4. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like correctness of language, clarity of
expression, development of the theme and other rhetorical qualities.

2. ESSAY WRITING (MALAYALAM/ENGLISH/HINDI/ARABIC)


1. The language of the competition shall be strictly used
2. No reference material will be permitted during the competition
3. The topic will be given on the spot.
4. Maximum time allotted 1 hour.
5. Judgment will most likely be based on qualities like development of the theme,
composition, tone, appropriateness’ of style , correctness of language , originality and
general impression

3. SHORT STORY WRITING (MALAYALAM/ENGLISH/HINDI/ARABIC)

1. The language of the competition shall be strictly used


2. No reference material will be permitted during the competition
3. Maximum time allotted 1 hour
4. The topic will be given on the spot
5. Judgment will be based on the qualities like delineation character, plot construction, theme,
diction, correctness and style of language and general impression
6. The story shall be original, not copied or condensed in any form from other writings

4. POETRY WRITING (MALAYALAM/ENGLISH/HINDI/ ARABIC)

1. Maximum time allotted 1 hour


2. The language of the competition shall be strictly used
3. No reference material will be permitted during the competition
4. The topic will be given on the spot
5. The poem shall be original , not copied or condensed in any form from other writings
6. Judgment will be based on qualities like theme development, diction, imagery, emotion,
appropriate use of language, general impression etc.

5. KAVITHAPARAYANAM (MALAYALAM)
1. Maximum time allotted 10 minutes
2. Judgment will be based on qualities like clarity of speech, expression of emotion and
ideas rhythm, tone, general impression etc.

6. POETRY RECITATION (HINDI /ENGLISH/ ARABIC)

1. Maximum time allotted 10 minutes


2. Judgment will be based on qualities like clarity of speech, expression of emotion and ideas
rhythm, tone, general impression etc.

7. FILM REVIEW

1. The review is to be written on a film screened before the competitors


2. Time allotted is 1 hour
3. No reference material will be permitted during the competition
4. The review can be written in English or Malayalam

II. FINE ARTS

1. SPOT PAINTING
1. Chart paper will be provided on the spot
2. Item will be conducted on the spot
3. Duration will not be more than 1.00 hr.
4. Painting can be done in oil, water, poster, pastel colors (participants has to bring the
necessary items).
5. Participant should mention their medium (Oil, water, poster or pastel ) in the entry form
6. Judgment should be based on both theme and neatness

2. COLLAGE

1. Topic will be given on the spot


2. Duration will not be more than 1 hr
3. Participants are requested to bring their own scissors and other materials

3. POSTER DESIGNING

1. Chart paper will be provided on the spot


2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject or idea
3. Duration will not be more than 1hr.

4. CARTOONING

1. Chart paper will be provided on the spot


2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject or idea
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hr.

5. PENCIL DRAWING
1. Chart paper will be provided on the spot
2. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject or idea
3. Duration will not be more than 1 hr.
4. Judgment should be based on both theme and neatness of drawing

6. CLAY MODELING

1. Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject or idea

7. PHOTOGRAPHY

2. Time will be fixed by the judged
3. Participants can use either digital or film roll camera. Mobile phone cameras will not
be allowed.
4. Photographs will be judged on the basis of content, composition, sensitivity,
creativity and style
5. Both color and or black and white photographs can be submitted for valuation.
6. The entry should be in original and must not be modified or edited in any manner.
7. Duration will not be more than 1 hr.

8. The camera along with memory card or film roll should be submitted to the stage
manager for verification or formatting before the commencement of the competition
9. Digital cameras of up to 12 megapixel can be used for the competition. (In case of
cameras with higher megapixels the entries must be within the 12 megapixel size.
10. In case of digital photographs, the format of the entries should be capable of being
transferred to a computer without any compatibility problems
11. Further instructions of any will be announced at the time of competition.
