11. ELECTRICITY – I
OBJECTIVE PRACTICE SHEET (OPS)-5 – KEY

I. CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING (AS1)

1. The flow of charges through a material constitutes electricity.
2. The electric current is expressed by a unit called ampere (A).
3. Lightning is a live example for the motion of charge in the atmosphere.
4. Potential or voltage is expressed in volts. 1volt = 1joule/coulomb
5. The closed path laid for flowing current between two points having potential
difference.
6. Using ammeter which is connected in series with a conductor.
V V
7. By taking the ratio we can get the resistance of conductor R. That is  R .

8. Resistance
9. Thin wire has more resistance than thick wire.
10. It is because alloys will have high melting point, high resistivity and very low
variation of resistivity with temperature. They do not oxidise easily.
11. (6Ω)
12. (One ampere)
13. (Potential difference)
14.
15. (Resistance)
16. (variable resistance)
17. (non-Ohmic conductors)
18. (Ω m)
19. (1012 to 1017  m )

II. ASKING QUESTIONS &MAKING HYPOTHESES (AS2)

1. 2
2. When a bird stands on a high voltage wire there is no potential difference between
the legs of the bird because it stands on a single wire and no current passes
through the bird. Hence, it doesn’t feel any electric shock

IV. INFORMATION SKILL (AS4)
1. i)-Silver ii)- ohm-meter
2. a) We can infer from the graph That the given resistor obeys Ohm’s law.
b) The value of resistance used here is R=V/I =0.8/0.2 = 4Ω
c) The diagram of circuit arrangement required to obtain the given graph.

3. i) 1
ii) Mentions ohm-meter (Ω m) as correct response.
iii) 4
4. Wire A has less resistance than wire B.
Because it has a larger cross-sectional area.
So, there are more pathways for the movement of electrons.

VI. APPLICATION TO DAILY LIFE, CONCERN TO BIODIVERSITY & HIGHER ORDER

THINKING (AS6)
1. 3
2. i) Nature allows everybody to remain electrically neutral.
ii) Net charge at every point of a conductor must be zero.
iii) While flowing charge or current the conductor always remain neutral.
3. Time of electric current flow, t = 5 min= 300 s
The total amount of electric charge that flow within the time,
Q  I  t  1A  300s  300C .
