DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA

Blood glucose > 13.9 mmol Can be normal in euglycemic DKA


May be mildly elevated in severe DKA due to
Venous PH < 7.3 metabolic alkalosis
Can drop on hydration due to combined metabolic
HCO3, < 18 mmol acidosis
AG > 12
Urine ketones Can be normal or low in severe DKA.
++ or above Only for diagnostic not prognostic
Serum ketones > 3 mmol /L
