In my town, having more tourists has both good and bad sides. On
one hand, it's exciting to see new faces, and it helps local
businesses grow. Tourists spend money on shops, restaurants, and
activities, which means more job opportunities for people here. It
also makes our town more popular, which feels kind of cool!
However, there are downsides too. With so many visitors, the
streets get crowded, and it can be annoying to wait in long lines
or deal with noise. Sometimes, tourists don't respect the
environment, leaving trash or damaging local nature spots. It can
also feel like the town is losing its quiet, local charm. So while it's
nice to have tourists and the benefits they bring, it’s important
they respect our space and don’t change our way of life too
much. Finding a balance is key!

In my locality, the rise in the number of tourists has both good and
bad sides. On the plus side, more tourists mean more jobs for
locals, especially in shops, restaurants, and hotels. It also brings
better infrastructure like roads and parks, making the area look
cleaner and more developed. Plus, it’s exciting to meet people
from different cultures and hear their stories.

However, there are drawbacks too. The streets get super crowded, which
makes it harder to get around, especially during peak tourist season. Prices for
food and activities can also rise, which isn't fair for locals. Sometimes tourists
leave litter, making the environment less pleasant. Also, it feels like our
peaceful community becomes more commercial and less personal when too
many people visit. Overall, it's a mix of excitement and frustration, depending
on how much the town can handle.

Tourism

Over the past few years, the number of tourists visiting our
local area has significantly increased. This influx brings both
benefits and challenges to the community.
Advantages:

Tourism has contributed to the local economy,

generating revenue for businesses such as
hotels, restaurants, and shops. Additionally, it
has created jobs for local residents, especially
in hospitality and services. Increased tourist
interest has also led to infrastructure
development, improving transportation and
other public amenities.
Disadvantages:

However, the rapid growth in tourism has created

several issues. The most pressing problem is
overcrowding in public spaces, leading to
environmental degradation, such as littering and
the destruction of local green areas. Traffic
congestion has worsened, particularly during peak
tourist seasons, affecting residents' daily lives.
Furthermore, rising demand for services has driven
up the cost of living, making it difficult for locals
to afford basic necessities.
Conclusion and Recommendation:

While tourism is vital to our economy, the negative

impacts must be addressed urgently. I recommend that the
council prioritize managing overcrowding and
environmental damage. Implementing stricter regulations
on waste disposal and limiting tourist numbers during peak
times could help mitigate these issues.

Report on the Impact of Growing Tourism in Our Local Area

To: The Local Council

From: [Your Name], Local Resident
Date: [Insert Date]

Subject: Advantages and Disadvantages of Increasing

Tourism in Our Local Area

Tourism in our local area has seen a significant rise over

the past few years, bringing both positive and negative
impacts.
Advantages:

Firstly, the influx of tourists has provided a boost to

the local economy. Local businesses such as hotels,
restaurants, and shops have experienced increased
revenue, leading to job creation and improved
livelihoods for residents. Additionally, tourism has
brought attention to our cultural heritage and natural
beauty, helping preserve historical sites and promote
local crafts.
Disadvantages:

However, there are several drawbacks that need attention.

One pressing issue is the strain on public services and
infrastructure. Roads have become congested, and
littering has increased, putting pressure on waste
management systems. Additionally, the rise in
accommodation demand has led to a surge in property
prices, making it difficult for locals to afford housing.
Environmental degradation due to over-tourism is another
concern, threatening the sustainability of our natural
resources.
Recommendation:

I suggest the council prioritize managing waste

and addressing environmental concerns.
Improving waste disposal systems and creating
awareness among tourists about responsible
tourism should be the first steps.
Addressing these issues will ensure that
tourism continues to benefit the local economy
without compromising the well-being of the
community.

Yours sincerely,

An Unexpected Victory: How I Won a Prize I Never
Saw Coming
Winning a prize can often come as a surprise, but when you least
expect it, the feeling is truly overwhelming. Recently, I had the
incredible experience of winning a prize that I never thought I
would—a moment that both humbled and inspired me.

The award was for ‘Outstanding Achievement in a Science

Competition’ organized by a regional science association. Although I
had always enjoyed science and participated in extra-curricular
activities, I didn’t believe I stood a chance. In this competition,
students from various schools across the region submitted innovative
science projects, and the level of talent was astonishing.
My project was focused on ‘renewable
energy solutions’, but in comparison to
some of the other complex and creative
projects, I thought mine was quite simple.
This is why winning the prize felt like a
dream!
The biggest reason I didn't expect to win was that I
didn’t consider myself among the top contenders.
There were moments where I doubted whether my
research was groundbreaking enough or whether I
could present my findings in a way that would impress
the judges. But I realized later that it wasn’t just
about having the most advanced project—it was about
‘passion, creativity, and impact’, and my project
seemed to strike a chord (edge/line) with the judges
in that respect.
While I might have been the one to accept the award, I
certainly didn’t do it alone. The success of my project was
a team effort, and there are several people who deserve
credit. First and foremost, my ‘science teacher’, Ms. Patel,
was a constant source of guidance. She not only helped me
refine my ideas but also challenged me to think critically
and look for solutions beyond the obvious. My classmates
also played a huge part. Many of them volunteered to ‘test
and give feedback’ on my prototypes, which helped me
spot weaknesses in my designs and improve them. Even my
‘family’ stepped in—my older brother, an engineering
student, gave me invaluable advice about technical
aspects, and my parents provided unwavering
Winning this prize has opened up several opportunities
for me. or starters, it has given me a ‘boost of
confidence’. I now realize that with determination and
the right support system, I can achieve more than I
initially believe. Additionally, the prize came with a
‘scholarship’ that will support my further education in
science—a huge benefit for my future career. More
than anything, it has sparked an even greater interest
in pursuing ‘sustainable energy solutions’, and I plan
to use this achievement as a stepping stone to make a
real difference in that field.
In conclusion, winning this unexpected prize was not
just a personal victory but a testament to the power of
teamwork and support. It has motivated me to keep
pushing the boundaries of what I think I’m capable of,
and I hope it serves as a reminder to others that
sometimes, the greatest surprises come from the least
expected places.
