aradıkları sorulardan biridir. Çoğu zaman yeterince anlaşılmayan ya da yerleşmiş olan zor algısından dolayı
korkarak yaklaşılan bu konu, aslında son derece kolay.

Phrasal Verbs Nedir?

Phrasal verbs ya da Türkçede kullanıldığı şekliyle deyimsel fiiller, bir fiil öbeğinden meydana gelir. Bu öbeği
oluşturmak için de edat ve zarflardan yararlanılır. Yani bir fiil, yanına bir edat veya zarf alarak öbek haline
geldiğinde deyimsel fiiller oluşur. Yeni oluşan sözcük öbeğinde, kelimeler tamamen farklı bir anlam
kazanır. İngilizcenin temel konuları arasında yer alan ve hem akademik hem de gündelik dilde sıklıkla
geçen bu konuda kullanılan çok sayıda kalıp mevcut.

Intransitive Phrasal Verbs

Geçişsiz deyimsel fiiller olarak Türkçeleştirilen intransitive phrasal verbs, cümlenin doğrudan bir
nesnesinin olmamasını ifade eder. Bu tür cümlelerde fiile “ne” sorusu yöneltildiği zaman, herhangi bir
yanıt alınmaz.

Örnek: You should speak up! I don’t think the old man can hear you well.

Transitive Phrasal Verbs

Transitive phrasal verbs, geçişli deyimsel fiiller olarak adlandırılır. Doğrudan bir nesneye sahip olan geçişli
fiiller, geçişli deyimsel fiiller kategorisine girer. Bu tür cümlelerde fiile “ne” sorusu sorulduğunda yanıt
alınabilir ve eylemlerden etkilenen kişiler bulunabilir. Kullanım şekline bağlı olarak transitive phrasal
verbs, separable phrasal verbs ve inseparable phrasal verbs şeklinde ikiye ayrılır.

Separable Phrasal Verbs

Seperable kelimesi, “ayrılabilir” anlamına gelir. Seperable phrasal verbs cümlelerinde fiil ile ikinci kelime
arasına nesne girebilir. Ancak bu her zaman, fiil ile kelimenin ayrılması gerektiği anlamına gelmez.

Örnek: I tried that red sweater on in the clothes shop.

Inseparable Phrasal Verbs

Ayrılmaz phrasal verbs olarak da bilinen intransitive deyimsel fiiller, yan yana kullanılmak zorundadır.
Cümlenin nesnesi bu kelime öbeklerinin arasına giremez. Araya nesne girmesi durumunda öbeğin anlamı
bozulur ve cümle hatalı hale gelir.
