Benha University Year: 2024/2025

Faculty of Engineering - Shoubra Semester: First Semester

Department of Geomatics Engineering Course: Photogrammetry 2
Third Year Assignment No: 3

Q1. A near-vertical aerial photograph taken with a 152.013-mm-focal-length camera contains

images of two ground control points A and B. Their refined photo coordinates and ground
coordinates in a local vertical system are listed in the following table.

Control Photo Coordinates Ground Coordinates

Point x, mm y, mm X, m Y, m Z, m
A -50.714 53.540 6936.954 3961.115 162.136
B 98.052 -77.430 7792.543 3170.883 156.891

The refined photo coordinates and ground coordinates in the local vertical system of two pass
points C and D are tabulated as follows:

Photo Coordinates
Pass Point
x, mm y, mm
C 7.822 -13.261
D 105.492 49.835

a) Calculate initial approximations for the exterior orientation elements of the photograph.
b) Compute initial approximations for the ground coordinates of the pass points C and D.
c) Determine the values of the nine elements m’s of the matrix of rotation from the photo coordinate
system to the ground coordinate system, using the initial approximations computed in (a).
d) Write down the collinearity equations for x- and y-image coordinates of each of the pass points
C and D, clarifying the observations as well as the unknowns in these equations.
e) Write down the linearized forms of collinearity equations given in (d).
f) Compute the values of the approximate functions as well as the partial derivatives with respect to the
unknowns included in the linearized forms provided in (e), using the initial approximations
determined in (a) and (b).
